SAT now to be offered in August 2017

Well, oh joy. More opportunities to take the SAT (as of 2017). No more waiting until October after the June administration.

Wow, nice!

Amazing. Something that the college board has done that makes sense!,

Praise the Board!

Surprising that few seem to care. Guess most are focused on the ACT.

It’s also two years off, @jym626

A year and a half

It is about time.

I think most people in this forum are juniors and maybe some sophomores. The juniors will be packing for school by August 2017.

My sophomore plans to be done with testing by Spring 2017- his older brother was. He has a very, very time consuming EC that makes testing in the fall impossible. Testing fall of senior year is out of the question. This August date would be his last shot if all does not go well in the Spring of 2017. He won’t need subject tests for the schools he is targeting. I wish they were doing it this year.

I think the people who will be happiest about this is Class of 2018 and they aren’t quite in the mode of watching this forum like hawks.

Did you notice they are doing away with January? That one is a good date for my family. Time consuming EC ends in November, semester exams in December and then SAT in January, ACT in February. I guess they figure people will only test so many times and more administrations means more cost without more revenue.

This will make kids who are defered from ED/ED round to RD round have no chance to improve SAT scores in January.

But colleges may change the admission schedules too. Who knows?

I also think 3 SAT dates per year is good enough. The more the number of tests is offered, the more stress students will have. Students should take them once or twice then forget about it.

Offering the test more than 3 times a year doesn’t mean the kids have to take them more than 3 times. More options of when to take the test less stressful by allowing you to move them to less stressful times of the year.

The October/November exams fall during a busy time for my kids. A team EC where you compete on Saturday mornings. Even if they skipped a competition they are physically exhausted at that point in the season.
The December test typically falls right before our semester exams.
January test is ideal for them
March is during Spring Break- fine as long as we forego a family trip
May test falls right around AP tests
June around final exams

For those that need subject tests, you need dates to take those as well.
