Hi all,

It has recently come to my attention that College Board also offers a SAT Online Course in addition to the "Bluebook". However, the price of the subscription for three months is about $70. So before I make this investment, I was wondering what my fellow CC'ers think of this Online Course.

If the Online Course is worth it, I was also informed that access codes can be purchased at ~$10 on Ebay, but unfortunately, after some digging around on Ebay and Amazon, no such deals have been seen.

Please share your opinions.

meh, I don’t think the Bluebook is all that good honestly, and there were no explanations when you got to the practice tests (just an answer key).

The best book I’ve seen is McGraw-Hills, “12 Practice SAT Tests” ~ which is $15 on Amazon. As for online courses ~ I’m using the one at ClockWorkMath.com it comes with as a DVD course with a proprietary syllabus, and about 5 or 6 hours of runtime, and then the online portion has another 20 or so hours… They focus on the problems you regularly see, and are most often missed. I think the cost is about the same as the subscription fee at College Board) (but it’s for an entire year, and you keep the DVDs).

If you didn’t already know, the Bluebook does have explanations, but they are online. However, if you do own a copy of the Bluebook, you could go to: <a href=“SAT Study Guide – SAT Suite | College Board”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; for explanations. But just a warning, some of the explanations are quite vague, however, they do explain every answer choice which is nice.

@RangersFC , I strongly disagree with you regarding the blue book, how can it be not good when the test are exactly like the real thing. The maker of the SAT college board made the practice test. If you have the previously administered tests, you will see them of the question from BB, and the real test are exactly alike.
McGraw-Hills is good and all, but the test is different from the real test, the passage is unrealistically long, the writing section is not accurate.

Regarding the online course, personally i will buy it only for its 10 practice tests, which are basically like the SAT. I wouldn’t buy it for the guide, i find college boards’s strategy to be ineffective.

If you feel you need to do more practice tests, you should definitely buy the course. You should also get the sat black book to understand what i meant.

@bktohelp Thanks for the input, I have another 11 tests from PR, and I think I will just do sections for review, and I will find all other online previously administered tests first, and if I still need more practice, I will look into purchasing the Online Course. Regarding the Blackbook, how effective do you think it actually is? Many review companies often boast tricks and tips that will help you ACE the SAT, but after doing some research, I have found that nothing beats continual practice.

@hades98, i won’t advice you to practice using PR, nor any other test prep company other than college board. I I agree nothing beats continual practice, but what good is it if your practice if it does not match the actual test.

This advice was from the black book, and i believe it is a very useful.
