I'm a freshman and I've already taken Algebra 1, Geometry, and finishing Algebra 2 by end of this year (all honors). I was wondering if I should take either the SAT or ACT in sophomore year, and study over the summer. I don't know whether the score would still be legitimate when I'm a senior applying to colleges. Would they be legitimate by then and if so which test should I take?

Won’t you be taking the PSAT and the PLAN this fall? This summer is a great time to prepare for both. Talk to your high school’s college counseling office, because not all schools have sophomores take the tests.

We take the PLAN sophomore year and the PSAT junior year. That’s not what I was talking about though. I wanted to know if I could take the SAT or ACT next year because they might be considered illegitimate by my senior year. I want to know how long they last and which test I should take

i think it’s an option, but it’s really not necessary to start SAT/ACT until junior year; why do you want to take them so soon? If you want to get a head start on standardized testing, pick a subject or two that you’re doing well in but won’t be continuing (since if you’ll continue in the subject it makes more sense to take it later), and sign up for an SAT subject test.

I know. Next year I’m taking the SAT subject test for APUSH. Then I’m probably gonna take Math II junior year after I take Calc. Just wondering though, ACT and SAT scores won’t expire after two years right?

I don’t think they would, however unless it’s for some outside thing it really makes more sense to just wait until your junior year; unless you feel confident that you’ll get close to a perfect score right now, then just wait another year since scores tend to just go up with time, so you’d want to retake it anyway- why waste the money to take it now?

Why not take Math II after pre-calc?

Since you live in Michigan, you might want to wait for the free ACT you get junior year to save some money.

I definitely recommend taking Math II after Pre-Calc. There is no calculus on the Math II subject test (unless you cont limits, but those are easy), and there is some stuff that you learn in pre-calc that isn’t really used in calc (like matrices and vectors).
