D is thinking about taking one of the Princeton SAT prep courses to see if she can increase her 1770 SAT score on the Oct. test. In our area they offer the SAT Master, SAT Standard, and SAT Small Group Tutoring. Has anyone out there in cc land taken one of these and if so how much did it really help as far as point increase? The small group class is 30 hours and cost $1,500 and that's the one she's looking into, the others are really pricey. She tried studying on her own but couldn't make herself stick with it....she needs to be in group and have a schedule to be able to stay with it. Thanks for your input! She would love to increase her score at least 200 pts. if possible.

I havn't taken one but I think the small group one would be the best. That way she can recieve insight specific to her that she wouldn't get in a large class. She could also easily ask any questions she has and could probobly talk with the "teacher" one on one. I'm not sure, but that sounds like the best choice. Also, I think SAT Master is only for students above a certain score, which I am pretty sure is above 1770.

My daughter took the SAT group class with PR and scored well. She is a bright kid and wanted to practice on her own but we thought if she takes some course it would help her to stick to some schedule and structure. She took the course prior to her First SAT , so we don't really know it helped her to boost any points. (there was about 250 point increase from diagnostic to her first SAT) We paid $1000 for the group class. There was a deal that time if she can't score 200 points more they would return the money.
I personally think these classes will help them to certain extent as long they do the PR " homework" . Hope this helps....

I would agree that the small group class would be the way to go. I wish I could have done that class.

I personally heard that Kaplan courses are very effective.
