SAT Prep for a rising sophomore

When should I start SAT prep? I'm going to be a sophomore for the 2010-11 year.

Should I just start with a light review/practice?

Nah, spend your summer volunteering ALOT and stuff, I wish I did that. Summer before junior year is time to practice
and just relax…its your last stress free summer man

I didn’t even think about the SAT until late in my junior year and ended up just fine. If anything, I wouldn’t worry about preparing until the end of/summer after your sophomore year.

Thanks. Sadly my school won’t accept the volunteering hours without teacher pre-approval. :frowning: I could do it for my application, but I figure I may as well kill two birds with one stone.

I’ll stick with the daily SAT question.

That seriously won’t help you. The best way to improve you score is rigorous lengthy studying like a couple months before test right b4 junior year.
A lot of top colleges don;t care about community service hours…There is a section on most apps to write your EC’s thats most important

Since you’re going into your sophomore year, this summer is the time to rack up community service. Volunteer at a nursing home (colleges love it if you use your talents to help others!), work the summer reading program at your local library, or organize a community clean up.

However, I’d suggest to take the SAT and the ACT at least once during the school year (like during Winter break or something). You can never be too early with standardized test prep, and before you know it, the PSAT will creep up on you Junior Year!

Have fun!
