SAT Prep in 10th grade

Hello, I am taking the PSAT this year in 10th grade, should I study for it? How?

Also, I want to go to an Ivy League, meaning that my score in the SAT needs to be outstanding, should I start studying now? How should I do that and how often? I am planning to take the SAT at the end of 11th grade.

Thank you! Any tips help too!

Is this the new PSAT? If so, I would glance over Khan Academy’s prep material and become familiar with the format. Maybe take a practice test. However, don’t put too much time into it. The PSAT becomes much more important in junior year, when your scores can qualify you for National Merit Scholarships. Use your results to gauge areas of weakness and pinpoint what you need to work on! Good luck!!

There is no tangible advantage for studying for PSAT more than for the SAT (other than the qualification for NMQST scholarships). Do study for the SAT in the summer after you finish the 10th grade.

Though you do need a good score to be admitted to Ivy League no doubt, it is not a guarantee. Many decision letters addressed to perfect scorers on ACT and/or SAT become soaked with tears as the word Sorry becomes a comprehensible thought. That is why the word “holistic” shows in almost every Ivy League school.
