Do schools know the percentile of the SAT score or are they just looking at the number? For selective schools, are they primarily looking for 750+?

Also, does anyone know why Math 2 SAT II subject test and the Math SAT sections have such strange curves? Is it because you will always get a high percentage of students that will always score perfect? For example, on the Math 2 subject test, a 760 is only in the 66th percentile. Then I found out that for the Nov 8 test for Math SAT, the curve was brutal and if you got only a few wrong, your score dropped to the high 600's. You could get a few wrong just by making a careless mistakes.
