SAT Reasoning Math Score for SEAS

Is it rlly necessary for a 770+ Math score?

Would 740-750 suffice? How about 720?

Well since there is no cutoff point, the most that can be said is the higher the better. Two students who can’t be differentiated otherwise may be separated by something like SAT scores. However SAT scores aren’t everything-people with low 700s are accepted over people with high ones because of things like essays, good high school grades, ECs, good recs or they just stood out for some other reason.

Just try your best to get as good a score as you can.

Just so you have some refrence, I got in with a 720 in SAT I math… and a 740 in SAT II mathematics level 2

^ Did you apply to SEAS? Were you a URM?

Yep applied to SEAS and no i’m not an URM… but I am an international student.

Could you post all of your stats? Including ethnicity ( It makes a big difference).

I’m just nervous lol.

Also I plan on apply ED to SEAS. Did you apply ED? If you did do you thing it helped?

no this is inaccurate. I have never heard someone say these two people are equal on subjective stuff so let’s choose based on a 30-40 point difference in SAT. it’s always the other way round. i.e. these two people have similar objective stuff so let’s differentiate on more subjective factors. In the eyes of the adcom, your essays / recs are never “equal”, they might be equally good, but for different reasons and those reasons will ultimately lead to a decision.

For seas you definitely want to have 700+ on SAT math, and at 750+ it probably doesn’t make too much of a difference any more. My guess is that the SAT 1 math range for Columbia seas will be something like 720-800. If you have say a 650, but have shown very strong achievement in say APs / SAT IIs / math competitions, I think they will overlook a low score as an exception.

shahe I answered your pm

740-750 is fine. Don’t worry about it.

I’m finishing freshman year at Columbia.

I had a 760 (II) and 800 (I) on the SATs.
