SAT requirements from transfer applicants

Anyone know what NYU requires from transfer applicants as far as standardized tests go? According to the website, all you need are SAT I scores from high school. However, today I recieved something in the mail saying they require "two SAT subject tests" from everyone. Anyone know what the deal is? I graduated from h.s. back in 2001, and to be honest I don't even know what an "SAT subject test" is. Back then all we took was one test, and it was scored out of 1600.

Anyone who can shed some light here would be a major help. Thanks.

Direct from the NYU website:
Transfer Applicants - Standardized Tests

Standardized tests are an important part of the admissions process. All applicants to NYU must provide official test scores from either the SAT, the SAT I examination or the ACT examination. If you have taken these tests more than once we will use your highest combined SAT or SAT I scores or your highest ACT scores in evaluating your application.

If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I or ACT examinations. If you did not take the SAT, the SAT I or ACT examinations in high school and have been in college less than one year, you must take one of these tests and submit the results as part of your application. International students who are in an area where the ACT Writing Test is not offered must take the SAT.

We encourage all transfer applicants to submit the results of two SAT II Subject Tests.

If English is not your native language and if your primary language of instruction has not been English, you should also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). (Please see the International Applicants Section for additional information.)

Official test scores should be sent directly to NYU from the testing agencies. The NYU code for the College Board (SAT, SAT I, SAT II, and TOEFL) is 2562; the ACT code for NYU is 2838. Please do not use the "Rush Report" option to have a paper copy of your SAT scores sent. We receive daily electronic transmissions of SAT scores, which enables us to update your application automatically and far more quickly than we are able to do if we receive paper score reports.

So they "encourage" but do not require. If you graduated hs in 2001, don't sweat it. Just apply.

Best to you!

Wow, that about covers it. Thank you very much. I think the thing I got in the mail pertains only to freshman applicants. Thanks again!

so if i'm a sophmore, applying for admissions as a junior-level transfer student, then i dont need to send my SAT scores?

If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I or ACT examinations.

took sat 1 in high school. dont think it will help my chances in nyu.
havent taken the ACT, so can i take it now ( in a freshman in college) and send the ACT score in?

...a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I...

Repeat...should not...simply submit the results of your high school SAT I

instead of sending online, can i submit them the original collegeboard reciept of answers? (the blue/gray that gives scores for that single test)
