In every SAT test I take I always get consistent 650's, and it never improves from there... I want to at least get my score up to a 2000 by March SAT's. My parents got me a tutor and my tutor seems like a great person, but I still want to self study and be motivated. My parents said that if I don't get over a 2000 by March, they're going to send me to a community college. My ideal SAT dream goal is a 2150. If I could get over a 2000 on the March test, I see a slight chance for me to get over a 2150 by June. I want to major in graphic design, and because my school's average is a 1300 to 1400 , I want to prove to people / teachers, that I could get out of this bad place. And I'm an asian american. How should I study for this test? I really have a hard time in identifying the error section and I don't know why. I have to guess to sometimes get it right, and I'm never confident in my answers.</p>
<p>You’re in luck–1800 plus is in the improvable range. Look for the stickies at the top of this forum with the Xiggi and Silverturtle guides to the SAT. Buy the book The Official SAT Study Guide published by collegeboard, and maybe the Princeton Review one too. </p>
<p>How much time are you setting aside to practice? Start with learning concepts and go on to taking full timed practice tests.</p>
<p>Just having a tutor is never going to be enough to raise your scores significantly. I tutor and I always tell my students that merely being in my presence is not going to raise their scores. They have to practice in a meaningful way, and that includes analyzing their errors. For the grammar questions, get a book that gives explanations–the Blue Book doesn’t. There are only about twenty grammar rules that you need to know, anyway–this is the most coachable. I’d be more concerned about the Critical Reading score. Is the issue vocabulary? Or is it the reading comprehension?</p>
