SAT Rush Scores

Does University of Maryland, CP accept rushed SAT score reports? I'm taking the SAT in October. However the scores don't come out until just a few days before November 1st. I don't want to send them directly because I want to see them first.

You do NOT want to send rushed score reports. They are sent via a different route and will not be properly connected to your account in time. There is absolutely no benefit in seeing your scores before sending them for the simple fact that Maryland requires that you send ALL scores from all dates that you take SATs.

Yes, I am aware of the new “score choice” that is available, but unlike other schools that may “recommend” you send all your scores and they will take your highest scores from each sitting (superscore), Maryland specifically states they require you to send all test dates. If you were to send at a later date, you would see even the SAT’s help guide for score choice specifically reinforces that Maryland does say to send all scores from all dates. So, no benefit to holding them back. Just send them directly from the test date, especially given the time crunch/deadline for priority deadline.

They will get them in time, you will be in compliance with Maryland rules, and if they are not your best scores, Maryland will not hold them against you - they will only consider your highest scores, so no worries.

@maryversity - do you know why UMD is asking for all scores?

Nope! They did it back when my s applied several years ago also, so nothing new, if that helps to know.

Most likely explanation is because they do superscore (only consider the best score in each category (math and critical reading) even if on different testing dates) and want to make sure they have every test taken into consideration – I guess they don’t trust that people know they do that, so if they mandate all test scores to be submitted, then they give everyone an equal chance of being considered in the best possible light and there are no complaints of people crying they didn’t know…

I do understand the frustration though, because for my younger one, it makes no sense since the last scores are the best across the board (so no superscore needed). I remember seeing something/hearing to the effect that if you don’t submit everything available (whether transcripts from all schools attended, test scores, etc) that you risk your application being rejected, so, whatever, I had them all sent. Not worth taking that kind of risk.

@maryversity - thank you! It’s very helpful. D will send in all scores as asked.

No problem…don’t forget to submit everything by Nov 1st! Personally, I always say to make sure it’s done a few days before in case of unforeseen catastrophes such as weather-related blackouts, other internet issues, personal computer issues, etc. That way it saves on last minute scrambling and also gives a few days to double check that everything does indeed get sent (guidance/teacher recs are notorious for needing follow up and even hs transcripts as well so double check with the senders before Nov 1 to remind them/verify everything was sent…). FYI, do not be overly worried by online status not showing everything received exactly on Nov 1st online because all the data is entered by humans and has to be matched to individual accounts - it takes a few weeks to catch everything up when they get the huge influx of items. Best of luck! And remember, they will not get an answer until the very, very last day of Jan, so be patient. It really is tough being patient when the early admissions/early decision schools release decisions in December…boy, do I remember that!..this is not early decision though, it’s “priority” so it’s still sooner than the spring, but later than December…hang in there though, and I hope you will have good news to share in a few months. :)
