SAT score for Dartmouth

Just a quick post
What would be an adequate score, given that you have good EC, marks, etc?
Cause that's my weak point right now.

How good are the ecs and grades?

umm to briefly state them:
top 2%
Student Government
Lifeguard
lots of volunteer

2350, just to give you a shot (and also because you're Canadian).

My guess is 2050+ for slim shot, 2150+ for a maybe shot, 2250+ for a decent shot, 2300+ for a solid shot.

sighs the scariest thing about dartmouth is that it's middle percentile for SAT scores is already amazingly high. so intimidating =/

2400. 2350, just to give you a shot (and also because you're Canadian).

What does being Canadian have to do with it? (just curious)

Being any International puts you at a disadvantage compared to regular U.S. applicants. Also, his ECs and accomplishments are nothing spectacular.

according to today's press release, the mean of this fall's matriculating class is 2200 (730/740/730).

According to the web site, about a third of freshmen are exempt from taking Writing 5. To be exempt, you have to score--IIRC--780 or above on CR, or something like 760 on both CR and W. So 1/3 of attendees score in that range.

Mean scores for those admitted this year were 726 for Verbal, 731 for Math and 726 for writing. So 2183 is the overall mean. Interestingly, it appears that the mean scores for those actually matriculating are indeed slightly higher.

Does anyone know if it's true that freshmen who placed out of writing 5 must take their freshmen seminar this Fall? Son had 3 other classes in mind but now believes he must select a seminar.

I'm not certain either. The website at least implies that they must. S placed out and as far as I can tell from the website will have to cite 4 seminar choices. (I was hoping he'd select Humanities I and II anyway, because they look like great courses.) There are definitely a few on the Fall list that I think S would NOT like, and a couple that would suit him. Presumably when they meet with their advisor, it will become clear.

Yes, if you place out of writing 5 you must take your seminar in the fall.

that's way too high

^^I thought that it was fairly clear that the post in question was facetious.

But yes, they are too high.
