SAT score...

It was my first time taking it and I studied my butt off...but
I got:
CR: 630
WR:730
MA:720

I like to read and I have been getting at least 660s on the practice tests...so I'm very
disappointed at that score..I'm aiming for Brown and I have one more chance in June
Do you think I can boost this mere 2080 to 2200+?
Especially CR..Is it possible to go up in such short time?

Well if you get one more question right in each section, you’ll be at

R: 650
W: 750
M: 740
— 2140

If you get two more questions right you’ll be at
R: 680
W: 760
M: 770
—2210

so yeah its possible

Got 2080 on my first sitting, and 2230 on my second. Everything is possible :)

Do you think it will be possible to raise your score in just 2 months?
I heard CR is pretty hard to raise…does anybody have any suggestions on
how to increase your CR grade?

Yes, it’s definitely possible  I improved my CR score by 50 pts in 2 months. That’s not a lot, but it does make a difference in the end.

CR is quite hard to bring up, because I think it’s a much more ‘‘subtle’’ art to master ahaha (at least, it seems to me…)

I bought Kaplan’s workbook. And then…practice practice practice practice  I was about to go mad and to burn my workbook by the time I got through it, but it definitely helped! Remember to write down your weaknesses and strenghts so that you learn how to deal with every question :)

just relax with cr and dont really stress about it. I went up 170 in critical reading (630->800) with no extra studying. i was so stressed before the january sat and studied like a beast every day and it really messed me up. then i chilled and got a perfect score =]

The trick I think to critical reading is not reading a ton of books,it’s paying close attention. My son’s CR yesterday was 740/98% (with the bloody Indian passage and it being his first time. That score jumped when he stopped reading into passages. It is such a mindset for some kids. He for example knows alot about mythology and science. SO whenever something would come up in those areas I noticed alot of mistakes. I realized that he was often putting his own knowledge into the passage. The best advice CR CC ever gave us was this: …the answer is in the passage…DO NOT interject yourself into the passage. The answer is there. He also just did alot of BB practice tests.

Sophomore son took the March 14th test for his second go around. His CR went down 50 pts but his Math increased 50 pts and his Writing increased by 180 pts. I’m sure it helped that his first Essay scored a 2 and his most recent essay was scored an 8.

He was disappointed with the math score this time around. I’m not making excusses for his first attempt last fall but he had a fever of 101 and was dealing with an Asthma attack. (I really felt bad for the other students in his room - I’m sure he was a distraction.)

Practice makes for higher scores. There is always next time!
