Hey,

I just wanted to know the SAT scores of the Indian CC posters who applied to top tier universities in USA (the ivies, duke, emory, hopkins, etc) and whether or not they got accepted or not.

I wanted to know whether the colleges consider teh SAT score as a very imp component of the students CV. Or rather HOW important.

the adcoms might be using harsh SAT 'filters' for Indian students (and others too maybe) that just disregards students with low SAT scores...

I heard only 3 students got selected for MIT? With 2300+ scores o.O

Any views?

So, your SAT scores with the colleges you got accepted at and applied to, pleaes :)

thank yoU!

err no SAT scores are very less significant when you’re applying to top-notch schools like MIT, HYP, etc. because the majority of students applying there will have like 2100+ scores… there are other factors that govern your admission to these univs
eg. MIT might have had 16000 apps out of which atleast 8000 would have had superb SAT scores but that doesnt mean they’ll take them all… nor does it mean that those who didn’t get those SAT scores have no chance of getting in

yea but at the same time, because Indian students are SO SO competitive, the SAT scores may help them to distinguish between students, right?

and is there some unofficial ‘cut off score’ where students have NO possiblity of acceptance below it? or is there a score wherein there is ‘really good’ chance of acceptance.

not to digress, but i heard the International acceptance rate at harvard is 3% while the one they give online for all the students including americans is bout 7%. So the competition IS HARSH.

err yeah the competition is stiff… but your SAT score is not a VERY important factor… its important but as far as you get like 2100 you’re probably safe to apply. your essays are what are really important and your recommendations, etc.
i had 2290 . i was rejected at MIT and Stanford, but there are students who get to Stanford with like 1800 SATs provided their essays are exceptionally good. Infact, Stanford prides itself at that
what i’m trying to tell you is… you need a good SAT score, but its not the only thing you need. and there are factors way more important than it when it comes to the very top tier schools like MIT, Stanford or the ivies

i got into MIT, Duke, Northwestern, Uchicago (more to go hopefully) with a 2290 sat 1 and 780,620(yeah i know it sucks !!!) in sat 2. essays i think are THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in ur application. be different and ur in.

I got 2190(CR800/M690/W700), and Lit 740, Math IIC 800, Bio M 720 (not a Bio student, self studied)
Till now I’ve been accepted at -
Williams, Berkeley, Pomona, Colgate, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Brandeis, Claremont Mckenna, American University(safety^2)
Waitlisted at Chicago, and rejected by Wellesley.
That’s it.
XD
Waiting for the Ivies.

So, SAT does matter, but it’s never the most important factor in an application. Make sure you have a decent score and more than that, you should try to develop a personality all throughout your application. Like a brand, stay true to your image.

I have a 2350 and have been royally waitlisted from a grand total of 5 schools, including Northwestern, Williams and Duke. So a high score will get you nowhere :\

^ Like RJ said, I’ve got a 2310 and 800/800 in subject tests, but two rejections, one acceptance, one waitlist so far, and expecting 5 more rejections today :P.

damn, i thought that that great of a score would ATLEAST get you into Northwestern. Maybe was i wrong :P.

Now we can maybe tell that a good SAT score is a ‘prerequisite’ for admission consideration.
I mean, 2300+ scores are just plain amazing.

Best advice someone gave me about SAT scores: They won’t get you in, but will keep you from getting out.

@NoHandlebars nailed it, as long as I can assume that the last word was supposed to be “in” not “out.” SAT scores are just a number and what will get you into the best schools is your ability to transform yourself from being just another high number into an individual. Lets call a spade a spade, these schools reject 2400 scorers all the time. That being said, SATs, along with essays, are the element of the application that you can exert the most control over because you can re-take them. So might as well mak them as strong as possible.
