Hello,
So the thing is, I’m an international student looking to apply to college in the US next year. I am planning to take the SAT Subject Test this fall, probably in October. My question is, can/should I take the Biology test (either E or M, doesn’t matter) without taking an AP class or any other relevant Bio classes in high school (my school doesn’t offer AP, I took Bio classes in 9th and 10th grade, but it is irrelevant since I haven’t learned anything from them). Is it possible to study everything on my own throughout this summer?
If yes, could you please recommend the best prep books, that contain everything I need to know, without having learned anything beforehand? I am aiming for 700+, I’d rather not take it than score less.
Thank you in advance!
Despite what some posters on CC think, AP courses are not needed to take any SAT Subject Test. For Biology, from the College Board:

Personally, I used no prep books for any of my subject tests, so I can’t help you there. Another poster may be able to give recommendations.
@skieurope Thanks for your answer, I hope I’ll be able to self study everything without any courses at all.
Can someone recommend me the best books that include all the content tested on the SAT? Pleaseee
I think Princeton Review SAT II Bio is good for both of the tests.
D took SAT 2 Bio at the end of 9th grade Bio (not AP) and got a 790. She might have gotten an 800 if she had waited to take it at the end of 11th grade but she wanted to have a subject test under her belt early.
^ and that’s very good thinking. getting a subject test out of the way in 9th or 10th grade frees up a lot of time and eliminates a lot of stress in the future.
IMO, while it may seem like it, there really isn’t much of a difference between 790 and 800. Yet a 790 in ninth grade is definitely more impressive than an 800 in 11th.
same, I have only taken Honors Biology back in sophomore year, which was last year, and I am planning on taking Biology exam in October. Right now I am using Kaplan biology and PR AP Biology to study. hope they will help…
