The schools my son is interested in all require two SAT Subject Test scores in addition to either the SAT or ACT test score. I know that SAT/ACT test median test scores for applicants who are accepted for admission is commonly posted on the internet and in various publications for all of the respective schools that he is interested in. What I'm having a problem finding is any info on average or median SAT II Subject Test scores for the likes of schools like Rice University and Vanderbilt.

Does anyone here know of a source where this information is available? If not, what's the consensus here for what a minimally acceptable SAT II Subject Test score is for highly selective schools like Rice and Vanderbilt?

I believe the conventional wisdom is 700 at the bare (very bare) minimum to show mastery of a subject. Mid 700s is better (at least that is what we were told by Admissions Director at Williams a couple of years ago). Plenty of applicants will have 750+ and even 800 on those tests. They are worth preparing for specifically.

@momofzag, I had assumed that minimum 700 score was necessary. Thanks for the info about the comments from the admissions director.

Yes, pretty much all the colleges that require SAT II subject tests are the most selective in the country and there are so many, many applicants with exceptional test scores…sigh…

There is the percentile ranking.
Be aware that some tests themselves cover much more than an AP class will.
I was blown away by how much the World History test covered trivial material as compared to the AP version.
