Sat Subject Test scores...are these good enough?

I got my SAT subject test scores last night:

US History - 800

Literature - 720

My reach schools are Yale, Stanford, and Columbia, but I'm aiming for Tufts or George Washington. I know that my literature is a little low, is my history good enough to make up for it?

i don’t know much about the lit test, but a 720, especially paired with an 800, seems great :)

I think you’re fine-- but I’d like to understand this better too. The SAT II’s are scaled so differently that a 710 is like 75th percentile! But that’s because only kids who aim high take SAT II’s.

On the other hand, since SAT II scores aren’t generally available, there isn’t so much pressure on them-- colleges don’t report their SAT II score ranges…so they don’t need high scorers to bring up their own scores.

Congrats on those great scores, OP!

Here is the relevant data table that shows what subject test score = a certain percentile rank:

http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/2010-sat-subject-test-percentile-ranks.pdf

thanks everyone! that chart is really helpful!

USH is 98%
Lit is 88%

Looking good for Tufts and GW, but if you’re serious about Yale/Stanford/Columbia, you might want to retake.

If you’re looking at ivies, you’ll need at least three 750+ subject test scores to be in the running (that is, unless you are a highly recruited athlete/legacy/urm or already have a high class rank and high sat score- or both). In any case, you might want to check out the academic index if you’re aiming for the top. It’ll give you a good idea of where you sit in relation to admissions.
