I am a senior who is applying to highly selective colleges, and I am looking to major in engineering.
I recently took the SAT subject test in physics. I was hoping to get a 700, but I got a 690. Some schools recommend sending 2 subject test scores, but do not require them. I also got a 780 in math 2. Should I send the physics score in addition to the math to supplement my applications, or will a score below 700 just make me look weaker?
Both physics and math 2 are hard tests. The fact that you took them in the first place when they’re optional - and you did good - tells me you’re passionate about STEM. Yes, definitely send the physics in addition!
Many people get accepted with low to mid 600s. While subject tests are definitely not your deciding factor, I would strongly encourage you to send your physics.
Depends on the college really. The Math 2 is good to send anywhere, but you’d want to get your Physics score up if you’re planning on applying to a school like CalTech or MIT.
I would definitely send the math score. I do not think the Physics score would negatively impact your application- its shows you are interested in STEM, and you took advantage of this optional addition to your application. Talk to your high school counselor just to make sure, but I think I would send a 690 because it is still relatively a good score and involves STEM!
