Due to an unexpected and urgent conflict my son was not able to take the SAT math and science subject tests when scheduled. There was not time to take these tests before the application deadline for regular admission, but since Dartmouth is his first choice, he applied anyway. He is an exceptionally well-rounded, stellar student with all the right coursework, grades and extracurricular activities. Is there any chance he will be considered for admission without the SAT subject tests? He had a fantastic alumni interview and was told he would get a superior recommendation.
I don’t think any of us know the answer to this. You’re best bet is to call the admissions office and discuss the situation with them. Doesn’t he need SAT subject tests for most of the other colleges he’s applying to?
Also, he’s had since last school year to take the tests so I doubt they will be very forgiving of the idea that he had no time to take them.
In the past the answer was you can apply, then take the SAT tests and send in your scores as soon as you get them and notify Admissions this is what happened.
My application year, one of the SAT 2’s was about a week after the deadline, so a handful of people I knew sent in one of those tests, either in addition to, or to replace one they had sent on their application already.
Late (but early enough in the process to make it in to the review) is always going to be more acceptable than never. Never would cause it to be marked as an incomplete application.
On quick google research, he missed the Jan 24th test, and the next chunk is May 2, which is after the incoming class will be finalized, so it’s going to be a really uphill battle for you both to explain the missing tests, especially since there were 3 other tests before Jan 24th. Good luck anyway, though I’ve never heard of someone in Admissions making an exception that far outside of the core application requirements.
