SAT submission help for international student

I’ve gotten a 1440 on my SAT. A decent score… I know, but I wanted to know whether it’s worth sending to the top 100 schools in the US. Some I’ll be applying to are Cornell, Columbia, NYU, UofMiami, Emory, Rice, Vanderbilt, Williams College, Amherst College, Georgetown, UT-Austin, Notre Dame, Upenn.

Any input would be highly appretiated.

I seem to recall you’re on a gap year after getting shut out last application cycle… if I’m confusing you with another poster, my apologies. I will review your posting history before putting my foot in my mouth. :slightly_smiling_face:

In the meantime, food for thought:

Is that score above the median for those schools?
Does that score enhance your overall application?
Do you have safeties/matches (because with this limited information your list seems to only have reaches)?

I’m not asking whether ill get in, instead if I should send these scores. Only asking about the score. For most schools, it comes near the top 75% score and for a few it exceeds it. But the score comes in the bottom 25% for all schools. IN short, for all schools, the score is b/w the bottom 25% and the top 75%.

I guess it does enhance my application. Im not to sure about that since schools are now TO. Im just hoping for the best.

You have to submit all of your scores to Georgetown, they are not test optional if you have taken a test or tests.

For the rest, I probably would not submit if the composite is below the median score. What is the section breakdown?

720 each section

You are just going to have to go by school by school, looking at Class of 2025 and/or Class of 2024 mid 50% test range data. It’s difficult to make a recommendation without knowing your full application, but I would not apply with test scores anywhere where the composite is below the median.

As I said above, for Georgetown you must submit all your test scores.

For Cornell, what school are you applying to? Some are test blind this year: Standardized Testing Policies | Undergraduate Admissions

For Cornell schools that are not test blind (same set of schools as last year), you should apply test optional as the 1440 is below the 25%ile (1450) for Class of 2025. http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Profile2021-first-year.pdf
The 1440 was below the median for class of 2024: http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Profile2020_first-year.pdf

For Penn, apply test optional… the 1440 is below the 25%ile for Class of 2025 (admitted mid 50% range is 1490-1560). Incoming Class of 2026 | Penn Admissions

And for class of 2024, math is below the 25%ile and EBRW below the median: Class of 2024 admitted: https://www.upenn.edu/about/facts

Now, you can do the rest. Good luck.

Got it! Sorry for the short answer earlier… I was working.

@Mwfan1921 gave you the guidance I would have (and more!)

Do some more research on each school and decide on a school by school basis whether to submit the 1440 (exception being Georgetown, as mentioned). Only submit if above the median… otherwise, as a generalization, it does not improve your application.

ETA: The 1440 (720/720) is a great, balanced score. You should be proud of it!! Although you aren’t asking in this post, I hope you are applying to schools where it is in the top quartile, for your best chances. Please take that advice for what it is… based on the limited information shared here (not your complete application). Good luck!
