Hey guys,
For the longest time ever, I didn’t know that Superscoring was a thing. With that in mind, there was one question that I would like to be answered.
-Would colleges choose a student who got a 1520 (720 R, 800 M) in one sitting over a student who got a 1550 Superscored (750 R,800M) by taking the highest score in each section from all tests taken? I’m asking this because superscoring seems to good to be true.
The difference between a 1520 and a 1550 is statistically meaningless. If all other things were equal, maybe/maybe not. But all other things are never equal in a college application. SAT scores are but one part (although an important part) of the overall package.
I understand that, but I’m just asking from only a scoring stand point. Would colleges desire a student who got a very good score on a SAT just from one sitting compared to a student who got that same exact score from multiple sittings. I’m saying that because it would be more impressive to pick a student who got the good score from one sitting, and superscoring to me just really does sound like an amazing thing.
Colleges will tell you that it does not matter, so I’m not going to read between the lines to discern a hidden message. The reality is that AO’s are only going to spend 10-15 minutes max reading each application, so they do not have the time (assuming they even had the inclination) to microanalyze. AO’s know that scores generally improve over time due to increased prep and increased academic maturity.
If a school do superscore, it may be an advantage for taking the test more than once and they may not care much if the composite is from a single sit or not.
