Hey everybody,

I know that some schools let you take the SAT several different times and submit only your best scores from each test in your application. Does Cal Tech let you do that?

I just took the SAT and I did pretty well in Math and Writing but not so great in Reading. I want to know if I have to do as well in the other categories, or can I just focus on Reading (I'll still try to do well on the others, but just in case something happens and I score lower on them, I want to be able to just submit my best scores).

From what I remember, Caltech expects you to submit all scores. In fact the official listing on the college Board site suggests that Caltech you need to contact institution.

http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat-score-use-practices-list.pdf

Again, you have to understand that SAT score choice allows you to choose that date of the test you want to considered, you cannot pick a sub score from one test and another from another test. Let us say your M/W/R scores were 700/750/800 respectively the first time you took the test and it was 800/750/700 on the second time. You cannot send them just the math from second day and the W/R scores from the first day. In this case you would have to send both days. Some colleges (and the pdf above gives the list) will automatically super score.

Caltech is very concerned about Math scores and so I assume they will not automatically super score but look at it in the context of which subjects you did better. That is why they do not follow some of the standard policies that most other institutions follow and suggest you Contact Institution for Information

I think they will tell you to submit all scores.
