I'm taking the SAT tomorrow. Last time I took it, I got a 750 CR, 520 M, and 630 W. I'm happy with my CR, and have realized it's hopeless for me to improve my math score. That being said, my W score is on the border of being a good score, so I've decided to concentrate on it. The first (and only) time I took the SAT I didn't study, so I'm sure I missed a number of grammar questions, but what got me was the essay... I spent forever thinking about what to write, then only got a paragraph written (granted the paragraph was over a page long), and didn't do too well (I think I got an 8). I'm a good writer (I got a 5 on AP Lang), I'm just not good at writing quickly... I'll just have to stop clarifying things in my essay. =P But anyway, there's nothing I can do to help me with the essay bit, so what can I do to help me prepare for the rest of the writing section? A long time ago I read that there was an SAT grammar boot camp thing on youtube that almost guaranteed you an 800, if you got a decent essay score... Anyone know anything about this, or want to help me out in any other ways?

Thanks for the link! I’ll be sure to at least watch the first 3 videos! I had no idea something like this existed.

The longer the essay, the better. Seriously. One study found that word count explained 39% of the variation in essay scores.

Use big, fancy words, even if you’re a little iffy on meaning.

I never liked the essay part of the SAT. You’re only given 20 minutes to write about something that you may or may not have plenty of ideas on.
If you like Twitter, and if you like Tweeting, you’re the type who’ll do well on the essay. But if you have a ton of ideas in your head, and if you like to place those ideas on paper in the most analytical and concise manner possible, then you will likely struggle on the essay. The essay part favors people with small ideas, unfortunately…

I got another 8. Depressing, seeing as I only missed 5 MC questions, and still made a 660… -_- I hate the essay. In what world does a subjectively graded essay belong on a STANDARDIZED test?
