SAT versus ACT for transfers

Hello Everyone,

I plan on taking the ACT test because I did not do my research and did not realize that collegeboard no longer allows you to take both the SAT I and SATIIs on the same day. So I will be taking the ACT in february.

From what it seems like to me about what I am reading about the SAT and ACT, that the SAT is more of a test of reasoning and an "innate potential" but the ACT is more centered on Achievement of high school course material.

Now I am starting to think that it may matter that I am taking the ACT in place of the SAT because the SAT may tell what I am capable of which is exactly what I am trying to prove to colleges coming from a community college background.

What do you think?

Am I at a disadvantage because I am taking the ACT and 3 subject tests?

I certainly hope not since I did considerably better on the ACT.

My answer - since you're taking 3 subject tests as well, no, not at all. In fact, you will see that some colleges actually prefer the ACT to the SAT. It doesn't really matter in the long run - a good score is a good score, regardless of which test it's on.

The ACT can often replace the SAT and one subject test (as noted by Brown University). If you take the ACT and 3 subject tests, it will be just as informative, if not more so, than taking the SAT and 3 subjects.
