Recently, I took both the SAT and the ACT (without writing) for the first time. I received a 2070 for my SAT score, which was mainly brought down due to the essay I didn't finish. However, on the ACT I got a 33, but it was without writing. I plan on studying writing and taking the ACT with Writing to see if I can get a 34 or 35.

But I'm wondering, do colleges take a preference if you submit your ACT or SAT score? When I looked at some percentages, it said that like 95% of all students submit their SAT scores to Cornell, while only like 26% of students submit their ACT.

Would it be better for me to study for the SAT and try to improve there instead?

My daughter was admitted, and she only submitted the ACT and SAT subject tests. I do not think that there is a preference for one test over the other, as long as the rest of your application is solid. Good luck!

I don't see why it would matter. The SAT and ACT are probably weighted the same when adcoms look at your application. And plus, its just one of the many aspects of the application that are looked at.

There used to be a strong preference by many schools, especially on the East Coast, for the SAT over the ACT. But now schools generally accept both. Just make sure that you submit your ACT with writing scores--most schools want the ACT with writing.
