This shouldn't be taken too seriously, I just found this interesting. I'm ranked 69/236 in my grade with a 3.65 GPA weighted and about a 3.5 GPA unweighted. I got a 1410/2140 on my SAT. Although my GPA isn't anything special, I have the 3rd highest SAT in my grade and the 2nd highest single sitting. Does that mean anything to colleges? Do they even compare your SAT to specific groups? Or is it only in comparison with the rest of the nation?

I can’t help but answering this post. But it’s well known in CC that you are considered smart and lazy for colleges.
High Sat that does not accompany high gpa is not viewed favorable.

@DrGoogle Haha. Tell me something I don’t know baby-cakes.

But in all seriousness, I was more focused on the SAT vs. Graduating class’ SAT part of the question.

Bump.

I agree with @DrGoogle

I’m totally okay with being labeled as lazy. It’s never bothered me. I always have been. Although, my recent grades and a well written essay may make some think otherwise about not admitting me. My GPA was a 4.0 UW for all of junior year. My poor GPAs amounted in sophomore and freshman year. My parents got divorced and that really made me slack off. They stopped paying attention to me. Not to mention we all still lived in the same house, which was basically a house full of hate. My only escape was through video games. I came home, put on my headphones and just started playing. Although my dad eventually moved out, the addiction was already in full swing. And it stuck with me for the first 2 years of high school. It wasn’t until the my teachers started talking about college that I got my sh*t together. I may write my essay on that. I feel like the divorce topic has been beat to death by every other kid out there with divorced parents who’s looking for sympathy. Anyways, yeah, I’m still lazy. Maybe I can trick them with an essay like that.

Huh, I really poured my soul into that paragraph. God, I need a new hobby.

Yeah. Not.

Hm? I don’t want to come off lazy to colleges. If you call me lazy it’s a compliment.

Don’t worry half the people in my family falls in this camp. Smart & lazy!

I’m one of them but my SAT was not high but my GPA was.

if a 2140 places you that high SAT-wise in your school, it’s likely your GPA is already relatively inflated anyway so I wouldn’t exactly place a ton of emphasis on your 4.0 one year

Your SAT is viewed in a demographic context – your income, ethnicity, and region influence how it is seen. Your school might play some role in that, but in the general, what your classmates are doing doesn’t matter.

@foolish I’m in a relatively small school, we have a graduating class of 236. The only two people who have a higher superscore than me are the valedictorian and my friend, who, like me, isn’t even close to the top of our graduating class. We have 6/236 with a 2100/32+ on the SAT/ACT. That’s 2.5% of the grade. And a 2100/32 would put us in about the 97 percentile. I think assuming my grade is inflated based on that is a little presumptuous – maybe even foolish.

@Hanna Thank you, Hanna. Getting right to the point. That’s what I was looking for. So, being a lower middle class, white, Long Islander, probably doesn’t help me either.

Sidenote: Just to all of you who can’t wrap your heads around somebody actually wanting to attend a school that isn’t top tier – I’m probably not applying to the same schools that you are. Haw Haw. Baguette.

@foolish I strongly disagree. A 2140 is in the 99th percentile of test takes. It would only make sense that a score of that caliber would be towards the top of a class.

The problem is you are from the northeast and that’s area is competitive. It’s worse if you are female and apply to humanities major. I know you are not female from your past posts but what are you planning to major and are you planning to stay in the northeast.

@DrGoogle I have a strong liking towards the Mid-Atlantic states. I’m also planning on applying to the University of Miami and University of Alabama, but otherwise, most schools will be Mid-Atlantic and New England. I’m also a male. And I plan to major in… well I don’t know. I was planning on biology because I’d like to be a doctor. But, I’d be open to other majors. Either science or business related.

@AnnieBeats Thanks for having my back girl.

Do you qualify for the merit aid at U of Alabama?
What other schools are you interested in NE and mid Atlantic ?

@DrGoogle I think I qualify for the presidential scholarship thing. It says 1400 SAT (CR+M) and 3.5+ GPA. I have 1410 SAT and 3.58 UW GPA. That’s the main reason I’m applying to UA. Money is definitely an issue for me.

I’m interested in: Binghamton, Albany, Marist, Loyola University Maryland, University of Delaware and Stony Brook.
My top 3 are probably: Binghamton, Loyola, UD.

Well, it’s great that you can get presidential scholarship. I don’t know about the rest of your list, maybe somebody can help you.
