SAT vs SAT Subject Conflict

Which plan sounds more reasonable?

May 1 : SAT Subject Tests United States History + Biology E/M
June 5 : SAT I

Pro : Prepares for AP Exam, 1 month to study for SAT I
Cons : Pushes Studying of USH+Bio up faster than I anticipated

May 1 : Study for AP Exams
June 5 : SAT Subject Tests USH+Bio
Oct xx: SAT I

Pro : More time to prepare for Subject Tests
Cons : No SAT I before Oct

I’d do #2.

You’ll have the whole summer to study for the SAT1.

I would do # 1.

Taking the SAT II subject test will help you see if you have any gaps before you take the AP tests. You can then take the SAT 1 in June. You can take either the SAT 1 and/or retake the SAT IIs in the fall.

There is a new series of AP review books that are very good prep for both the AP tests and the SAT II tests and each book costs around $10. The series is called AP Crash Course by REA. I used the APUSH Crash Course book last year and got a 5 on the AP and a 760 on the SAT II. It was much easier to study with than the bigger books that have way more information than you need for the test. The Biology book is new this year.

Perhaps consider completing the Subject Tests on May 1 without any testing on June 5. I would actually recommend taking the SAT II in May since the material should be covered by that point in AP courses and you will be at about the height of your motivation and understanding of the material. It really depends on your motivation, but there is a bit of an anti-climax after the AP Exams have passed.

I am doing #1. My reasoning was that studying for the subject tests would be adequate preparation for the AP exams too. In addition, it will force me to not procrastinate. :P
