Is the TOEFL easier than SAT ? Does taking TOEFL instead of SAT can affect your chances of getting admitted into MIT against other international applicants ?

TOEFL is horribly easy compared to the SAT, and you can’t take TOEFL instead of the SAT. TOEFL is only a language requirement while the SAT tests your predicted academic success.

But on the admissions page they say that international students can take The SAT Reasoning test or the TOEFL but the subject tests are required.

Only MIT provides you such an option. You need TOEFL in addition to SAT for almost every other college.

So when applying for MIT, does taking the TOEFL instead of the SAT reasoning test will affect my chances ?

This is really a question for the MIT forum rather than this one, but the answer is no. Taking the TOEFL instead of the SAT verbal reasoning will not be considered a negative in MIT admissions. They really will consider them equivalently.

Keep in mind though that for MIT, scores are important, but they are not what will get you in to MIT.

Your achievements in other areas would affect the ultimate decision much much more than whether you take the SAT or the TOEFL.
