SAT Word Game, anyone?

<p>This is for anyone who wants to expand their SAT vocabulary. To play, list a synonym of the previous post's word and a funny (or regular) sentence utilizing it, and your own word following it. I saw this idea on a post from seven years ago and wanted to bring it back to life. It's great for learning those tough SAT words. I'll start first.</p>

<p>subterfuge</p>

<p>Subterfuge-The ETS’s subterfuge in its multitude of misleading answer choices on the SAT has caused grief for many high school students ever since 1926.</p>

<p>Perspicacious</p>

<p>Perspicacious- Sagacious </p>

<p>I am not at all perspicacious when it comes to SAT vocabulary.</p>

<p>Propitiate</p>

<p>Bump!!!</p>

<p>Propitate - placate
The studious boy was not propiated with his low Sat scores.

<p>The boy’s egregious behavior over the past year put him on Santa’s naughty list.</p>

<p>maladroit</p>

<p>maladroit - awkward, unskilled, clumsy</p>

<p>The maladroit student failed to answer the SAT essay correctly, choosing instead to write an essay on The Hobbit.</p>

<p>mawkish</p>

<p>mawkish= sad, despondent, maudlin</p>

<p>the funeral was filled with mawkish dirge which sadden the guests.</p>

<p>filial piety</p>

<p>lol jk.</p>

<p>howabout verisimilitude</p>

<p>Verisimilitude- Plausibility</p>

<p>The gaudy bracelet had great verisimilitude when seen from afar. </p>

<p>Fastidious</p>

<p>Fastidious-Meticulous</p>

<p>In order to score a 2400 on the SAT, one must treat each question with fastidious care. </p>

<p>ascetic</p>

<p>ascetic=beautiful
i find ascetic in the building of the museum of modern art, in which the great rose really placates/ propitiates me</p>

<p>turpitude</p>

<p>Ascetic-Abstainer</p>

<p>The pious man was described to be ascetic because he denied himself many things.</p>

<p>vicissitude</p>

<p>I think you mean aesthetic, haha.</p>

<p>Vicissitude - mutation/shift
Even though I was alright with the vicissitude in my SAT scores from a 2400 to a 2300, my father was not.
Obsequious</p>

<p>Obsequious-Servile</p>

<p>Tyrannical rulers love dominating over obsequious peoples.</p>

<p>Effluvium</p>

<p>Effluvium - unpleasant odor</p>

<p>The effluvium the man behind us released had the entire audience rushing out of the theater.</p>

<p>zephyr</p>

<p>Zephyr - breeze</p>

<p>The pages of homework I was doing were fluttered by the gentle zephyr.</p>

<p>Picayune</p>

<p>Picayune- trivial/of little matter
Good hygiene is picayune when you’re in a rush.
Banal</p>

<p>obsequious= flattering, suck up
the obsequious employee waits for her boss every morning just to compliment his appearance.</p>

<p>turpitude</p>
