SAT Word Game, anyone?

<p>Etymology- the origin of a word</p>

<p>Sometimes I look into the etymology of certain SAT vocabulary to help me memorize their definitions.</p>

<p>promulgate</p>

<p>HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… futsu1… look who beat ME at the word… LOL</p>

<p>Abrogate- abolish, cancel</p>

<p>The aim of the revolution is to abrogate tyranny.</p>

<p>(again…) promulgate</p>

<p>promulgate- promote</p>

<p>The news agencies promulgate the scandals on JB hitting up with Rebecca Black.</p>

<p>LOL</p>

<p>abstain</p>

<p>abstain - to refrain from doing something</p>

<p>For months he abstained from playing video games so that he could achieve a 2400.</p>

<p>germane</p>

<p>Germane- relevant</p>

<p>You’re list of what you ate for breakfast this month is not germane to the topic at hand.</p>

<p>inducements</p>

<p>inducements - things that persuade someone to do something</p>

<p>I won’t waste my time doing your homework unless you give me some inducements.</p>

<p>mazuma</p>

<p>Mazuma- Ca$$$$h</p>

<p>I personally, would never spend the night in a haunted house if there was no hefty reward containing large amounts of mazuma.</p>

<p>Belligerence</p>

<p>Belligerence - Eagerness to fight. </p>

<p>The belligerence of the country will be its ultimate downfall.</p>

<p>Onus</p>

<p>Onus - burden</p>

<p>Studying everyday for 5 months to achieve a 2400 is an weighty onus indeed.</p>

<p>rapacious</p>

<p>rapacious - aggressively greedy our grasping</p>

<p>The rapacious student bought every SAT prep book at the bookstore in order to prevent the other students from scoring higher than him.</p>

<p>ubiquitous</p>

<p>ubiquitous - prevalent</p>

<p>2400 scores are ubiquitous in the College confidential society. </p>

<p>parochial</p>

<p>parochial - narrow minded</p>

<p>Because his parents raised him to be intolerant of the beliefs of others, Jason developed a parochial mindset and often ignored the ideas of others.</p>

<p>noxious</p>

<p>noxious - harmful, unpleasant</p>

<p>He sat for hours in the noxious testing environment so that he could score a 2400. </p>

<p>ignominy</p>

<p>ignominy - shame, disgrace</p>

<p>Amanda could not withstand the ignominy of receiving only a 2390 so she ran away to Panama.</p>

<p>hedonist</p>

<p>Hedonist- devotion to pleasure</p>

<p>To meet the needs of his motives, the hedonist studied for the SAT for a prolonged period of time.</p>

<p>(Not sure if I used it properly)</p>

<p>Dither</p>

<p>Dither- to be indecisive</p>

<p>The confused high school student dithered over which colleges to apply to.</p>

<p>vicissitude</p>

<p>vicissitude- shift, change
The audience were very disappointed at the sudden vicissitude of events in the plot of the movie.</p>

<p>pneumatic</p>

<p>pneumatic - having a well proportioned figure or relating to air pressure</p>

<p>In Brave New World, the protagonist’s girlfriend is described as pneumatic. </p>

<p>intransigence</p>

<p>intransigence- state of being uncompromising.</p>

<p>“Your intransigence will get you nowhere”- says every parent :P</p>
