25 Key Words To Know for the SAT

<p>If there were 25 words to know by Saturday, what would they be? Lets create a solid list! I think it will help a lot of people freaking out for the March 14th test (including myself).</p>

<p>My words:
1. ephemeral- short lived
2. magnanimous- generous
3. unequivocal- w/o doubt</p>

<p>magnanimous got me on the PSAT. Good one.</p>

<p>haughty-disdainfully (contemptuously) arrogant word showed up on both of my tests</p>

<p>My d missed:</p>

<p>disingenuous</p>

<p>cathartic</p>

<p>anachronism (out of place in time) and ascetic (self-denying) are good ones</p>

<p>I missed impecunious…</p>

<p>not having pecuniary resources or a lack of money on last years PSAT and somehow managed to miss prognosticator this year, lol. That word was on the practice tests that I took and everything.</p>

<p>Pragmatic: Practical</p>

<p>^ I’ve seen “pragmatic” multiple times. Solid bet.</p>

<p>They love “jaded” too.
Paucity was a good one…</p>

<p>I’m so glad I’ve been taking Latin throughout high school, its so easy to spot root words now!</p>

<p>Last time “gerrymandering” got me…means manipulating boundaries…</p>

<p>Weirdest word I’ve ever heard</p>

<p>“gerrymandering” ^^^</p>

<p>how ironic. i just learned that word today after missing a question based on it on my Participation in Government course…creeepy</p>

<p>acme/apex/zenith - they all mean highest point.</p>

<p>Words are easy. We need a math discussion. NOW. LOL.</p>

<p>“Sesquipedalian” - means someone given to the use of using very long words.</p>

<p>I got “gerrymandering” right on the PSAT =) </p>

<p>Here’s a couple good ones: “reticent” which means reserved, and “garrulous” which means extremely talkative.</p>

<p>well, some of the words you can break down into roots- I try and look for those…</p>

<p>like in anachronism
chron(chronos)- is of or related to time generally…</p>

<p>“haughty” (from post #7) should be easy to remember: it describes the Malfoys to a t.</p>

<p>2/3 of hookem’s words were on today. </p>
