SAT2s?

Question on behalf of my rising senior, who has American high on her (very) short list: Are SATs necessary or strongly advised? There is no mention of them anywhere on the Admissions pages on the site, but the information on her Naviance site (which I believe comes from Fiske) says they’re required. They are not even recommended at the other schools she’s considering, so she’s hoping that’s true at American.

Thanks

On my Naviance site it says that SAT2s are recommended. So basically, submit if you did well on them I think.

I am pretty sure American doesn’t require them, my son only applied because it was easy to apply to. He didn’t apply to Georgetown because it required 3 SAT 2s.
I would trust the AU website over Naviance.

We neither require nor do we evaluate any SAT Subject Test results. They are loosely recommended, although said recommendation is really only valid for post-enrollment placement in some course sequences (and even then it’s limited). The only case where we truly require SAT Subject Tests would be for home-schooled applicants, and even then exceptions can be made on a case by case basis. Great question though and I’m happy to set the record straight!

If we do submit 1/2 Subject Test(s) will they be looked at but loosely? Thanks!

I can honestly say that I have never looked at an SAT Subject Test result in an admissions review and utilized said score in my decision making. I just asked my office mate the same question and she agreed with me.

Thanks, KBJ, you just made an American-loving prospective student very happy! She did take Spanish, which would be useful for placement, because she’s not taking Spanish senior year (for teacher/schedule reasons) but wants to continue it in college.

I’m always happy to assist the over-tested students of America!

I got a 710 on a SAT2 for World History, but my class is not required to take the SAT2. Should I still put it on my application?

If you are submitting your SAT scores, the College Board will automatically send the SAT2 also. Of course, if you submit the ACT, they won’t.
