stardragon, you never know what adcoms think. As long as ur essays are good and show something awesome, then u always have a chance - dont give up on princeton. Apply there, ur losing out on an opportunity if u dont.

callthecops: agree.
stardragon: except the SAT score, I believe all other stats of mine are way below you. But I still apply to Pton. Who knows what will happen? I don't want to regret later with such things as: I should have this and I should have that. Cheer up and apply!

I very want to apply to Princeton, but I think it's just spending of money, though maybe... But I think MIT and Yale are also very very good schools (but Pton has better finaid).

Good Luck to all of us! We're already heroes!

Dragon, don't exaggerate the heroism:)
Why (or better how?) is applying to Princeton a waste of money?

Oh, I think if we with such stats decided to apply we're already heros. :)

Really, it's very very small waste of money (I suppose 65$). I want to ask you about Yale: life, campus, academics etc. Safety, of course. Just interesting.

oh, I don't have to pay the fee. Remember the fee waivers

What are these fee waivers, and where can I take them?

oh, fee waiver? it rules my life. You can read in the college brochure/viewbook/website: If the application fee constitute an unusual financial hardship, you can ask your counselor to submit a fee waiver.
Well, just ask your college counselor/ principal to write and sign a form like this:
To whom it may concern:
My name is (your counselor's name). I am the (his/ her position) of (your school name) school. Mr/Ms. (your name), who is a senior student at my school, is applying to your instituion. His family's limited income (your's family income) is to provide (name of your parents' dependents, including you, remember to note if anyone is attending college). Therefore, I believe the application fee will constitute a financial hardship to their family. I truly hope that you will consider waiving this fee for (your name). Thank you for your time and consideration.
High regards, (signature below)

Dragon, you were seriously going to pay the fees? Incredible...
Yale is great. It is gorgeous, safe, and academically intense.

omg.
i thought the fee waiver was only for US citizens??

So, just it?? Nothing else?

I can do: apply online and mail this fee waiver, right?

oh, it's for everyone. U.S kids are far richer than us int'l.
That's right, dragon. Or at least that's what I read. You can mail the fee waiver seperately.

gaA! my counselor told me to forget about the fee waiver thing because "it's for US students"

Well, it is not that easy with the fee waivers. First of all, there are some schools that do not accept fee waivers at all. Second, there are schools that do not accept fee waivers from international students. So, you should always be careful with that and double check each school's regulations, so that your application doesn't go into the trash just because you didn't pay the fee.

I suppose Yale accepts fee waivers, oce you got in. I have already paid 65$ to MIT. So I have nothing to worry about.

Manyzhka, just little question. Ты случаем не посылала какие-нибудь Supplementary materials? Напр. research abstract or art?

(sniff!) there's fee waiver and i didn't use it......(sob)

ngohuongly88
Is the letter (from the councillar) all you need to apply for a fee waiver?

Stardragon,

You can send both art and research paper. I think you must send anything that you think needs to be considered as your accomplishments.

Elsewhere in the CC I have read that one must send arts supplements only if there are state/national level awards etc. but I think that one must feel free to showcase any talent that one thinks is significant. For instance, even if you have not participated in competitions and won awards, you must still send your musical and/or art portfolios if you think you have talent and have spent considerable time on the activities.

Sugee,

The matter is that I really have not anything great to send, and I'm interested in how important are these supplementary materials. Can they dramatically increase the chances?

stardragon,

dont lose hope! i got a 1230 (610V 620M) in my SAT I and my SAT IIs are in the 600's but im confident with the rest of my application - so im applying to HYP and a bunch of other schools. who knows what might happen right? i do believe in miracles :P
