I recently took the last form of the old SAT. I got a 2030s score, but I am extremely nervous. Usually I would be happy with that score, since my goal was to break 2000, but here is the breakdown:
Writing: 750
Reading: 700
Math: 580
Being that my math score is so low, do you think this will severely hurt my chances? Or will colleges see clearly where my strengths lie and just take note that I got a 2030 and that my reading and writing scores were high. When I look at average SAT scores to get into schools, I usually have higher scores in the reading and writing than the averages are, and when it says the combined score, my 2030 is usually in range, but I am terrified that this math score will kill my chances.
What schools are you looking at? What major?
I want to major in political science (international relations to be specific). I’ve been looking into Barnard and Boston College. I am also really interested in UVA, but I know that it’s a long shot.
At Barnard, 16% of students have an SATM score below 600, and at BC it’s 10%. So it’s not impossible, but chances are not great. Do you have any chances to retake, and study more on math?
No because that was the last test ever of the old format. I am still waiting on my ACT score (but I don’t think I did very well), and I really hate the format of the new SAT.
well, it seems to me that you’re a junior, which means that you still have some time to raise your math score(assuming your ACT math score is equivalent to your present SAT math score), especially since you haven’t applied yet.
This is the exact situation that I am in. Hoping to study more for the ACTs and hopefully I’ll improve once I’m done with pre-calculus. Best of luck!
