SCEA - Class of 2011

12 colleges for me as well! I'm using common apps with supplements for 4 of them, so like many, I'm just concentrating on Stanford for the time being. Yet another victim of the staring-at-blank-document phenomenon here.

Just find something you feel you can write forever about! This is where the "passion" comes in...

:) Good luck everyone!!!

Haha, good advice pyleela. Now get rid of distractions for me.

Yes! I just finished my long essay! Whoo hoo!!! Only it's 500 characters over the limit.. argh..

Just so you guys don't get confused as well, MS Word's character count doesn't include spaces, whereas I believe Stanford's will. Just seach "character count" on google to find a counter.

actually MS Word does. it might depend on your version though. just go to word count, and you will spot Characters (with spaces) lol. im happy that your almost done with your long essay julyinoh. don't you feel accomplished? lol

Oh, I see. I just look at the stats that come up after spellcheck.

Hey, on the application, does first language mean first language you learned or primary language you speak? I still speak both Cantonese and English, but English more.

first language you learned I think? that's what I'm interpreting as..

I love how we're all helping each other out. This atmosphere is so relaxed! (Well, except for our own anxieties...but even that's communal!)

Haha, devaaki. :D I think CC is the biggest distraction out there...and fanfiction...shrug I have that problem myself. Not to mention, that is the most generic advice anyone can ever give you. In fact, in terms of essays, that's the only advice I have ever gotten. Pretty sad, but I guess that's about all the help people can offer.

I believe that word has a character count with spaces and another one without spaces. They're clearly labeled. Well, they are in my Word.

Is everyone submitting Form 2 online? I was thinking I would put it on paper...I did Form 1 online though. Any comments on which is better?

besides not having to waste paper (ahh poor trees) or stamps and getting your app, no =) lol (im biased though)... are any of you planning to read your essays again after you submitted them? lol

Ack! Read my essay AFTER submitting! That would be a nightmare. It's enough having to read it an uncountable number of times before...imagine finding a mistake...ouch.

However, how many of you are going to be tweaking it a bit for other colleges? Just so you don't have to write essays from scratch?

Oh, me. Haha, wayy too many privates :(. Plus, the essays that come outta the Stanford mill tend to be pretty good, for the most part. Although I won't ever admit to MY essays being good.

I really don't want to read my essays afterwards, either.

Glad everyone here's so chill, even though we are competing against each other. Hope it stays that way, as I'm fine with bein' best buds with you all, or coming after you in white vans with ladders on top. Your choice.

Night all,

dev

hmm I thought online it said that if you submit part I online you have to send part II online too? that's what I remember reading...or it may have been for another college.

I think I'm not going to use the same essays for all my colleges and probably going to start from scratch again but might use some of the same ideas? haha but that plan might change...since I haven't even written my stanford long essay yet =/

Well we're not really competing against each other.. I mean, 4,000 applicants? And like 30 of us?

Now that I've finished the long essay, I don't seem to want to keep working. Sigh.. still got the intellectual idea and the extracurricular activity left..

Okay, is anyone else having a really hard time concentrating on school work? This is, like, the period of uber-anxiety...

That, and I'm spending a lot of time reading Stanford stuff. This is realllllyyy unhealthy...

Who's in the same situation???

Oh jeez, pyleela, you described me perfectly. :D

lol. I'm definitely planning to reuse my Stanford essays (after some tweaks of course). I would hate having to start from scratch, especially after all of this work! Still, I'll definitely be trying to avoid rereading it as much as possible lol.

I'm glad I'm the only one on the wiki that doesn't have a major yet.. sigh..

Lol, well, 60% of Stanford freshmen go in undecided, so you're actually in the majority. :]

lol i second chillaxin. since stanford is my first choice, it will have my best essays, so why not? you know one week and two months from now, we will be getting our decisions? ahaha not to make you all anxious lol but the clock is slowly ticking away! nevertheless, to counteract all of this anxiety, i am planning to do some CC fasting lol (lets see how that holds up lol)

Awww...CC fasting? This is fun! We have an awesome community getting set up here! I love it, quite honestly. Anonymous...at least until we get our acceptances!!! (I need to be self-confident for now...) :D

And remember, Stanford accepts into the university, not a particular major.

I'm going absolutely crazy, and no one over here understands why! That's why I love this board. We're all going through the same thing. :)

Haha... being torn apart by too much crap to do is healthy, I guess.

CC fasting? What's the plan?
