SCEA - Class of 2011

lol just to stay away from CC for a week, so the anxiety dissipates a bit.

what the h*ll, I finally added my stats to wiki. yeah I know, my SAT scores are embarrassing. hopefully I'll improve on this Saturday.
btw, I posted a question regarding optional rec on the main forum. form 6 says sending form 6 is discouraged.
can you guys please share if you're sending an optional rec? thanks

I'm definitely sending an optional rec. What they mean, I believe, is that it's discouraged if it doesn't add anything new to your application .Aka, don't use a teacher who'll say the exact same things about you as teachers A and B already have.

I think my optional rec is going to add some new insights. I'm not sure how much new insights though.
it won't harm me in anyway, would it?
thanks chillaxin

Choboking: You posted! You posted! Awww...I don't like fasting. We need to figure out some plan on how to manage our time though (for those of us who actually need it...).

I'm sending in the max that the apps allow. The more the know about the applicant the better, right? Might as well get as much info as possible into their hands. :D

i guess im doing stanford scea too.

lol...chillaxin we can go bowling

LOL, sounds good! :D

Oh, btw, does anyone here know how to check online to see if they've received all your materials? The online application says that you'll be sent instructions for how to do this online once you submit Part I, but I still haven't received anything yet.

Also, how many of you are writing the note to your roomate in a note format (e.g. "Dear Roomate, ....")?

Chillaxin: I have no clue lol.. sorry.. I don't even have Form 1 submitted yet.

I put "Dear Roomie" at the top, but I don't mention him or us at all in the essay so I might take it out. Then again, I haven't really touched that one. I finally got my first essay down from 1900 to 1595 characters. I actually find it kind of entertaining now, trying to phrase things the best and most concise way possible. It's like a puzzle. On the other hand, I haven't touched any of the other ones because they scare me..

You don't find out if you're missing anything until after Nov. 1. That's when the admissions office calls you and gives you a chance to turn it in again. They have no way to check, they say, until then.

Are you sure, pyleela? :-/

Lol, julyinoh, I totally know the feeling. I wrote my long essay ages ago, but have been chopping it to pieces. Today, though, I didn't feel like touching it, so I actually have begun drafting my roomate essay. I was hit by struck by absolute terror though when I realized I'd be starting all over from scratch.

nasty nasty. ive actually been working on getting the short ones done with, so those are almost... almost over with. The long one though... all I can think about when I try and brainstorm is... UGH. lol.

julyinoh, i guess the only joy from editing essays is making the sentences tight and powerful. If only I could regurgitate the sentences out in the first place ... :(

anybody putting off school hmwk for essays? or vice versa?

I was worried when this thread died for a bit... :D Glad it's back to normal.

Now, to more serious matters. Don't take my word for the missing docs. Call the admissions office. They're really nice and it's basically anonymous. I called and that's what the guy I talked to told me, so I'm hoping he was giving me the right info...Doublecheck! It'll be good verification!

Yeah, thinking about this particular app isn't helping my studies at all. I'm going to go work on the essays now! :D

I'll do that tomorrow then, and let everyone know. :]

Ay, I totally agree with the putting off of homework. The sad part is that I'm not getting my essays done either! This note to your roommate is really bugging me, since I can't think of a hook that would be informal enough to be something I'd write to a roommate. Does anyone else have this problem?

And devaaki, it's nice to hear the Minnesotan "nasty" again. :]

I didn't put Dear Roomie on top. I figured that I maximize my characters by leaving it out lol. But then again, my roommate essay was surprisingly like ~500 characters less than the limit. Some ideas that helped me was thinking about a habit you might have or doing a topic people may relate to.

Nasty is a Minnesota word? Is that the mini-Apple? Excuse my lack of geography knowledge, if this is what my questions can be considered as...

;)

I had that problem, Chillaxin, but I think I finally got it. Think of how you greet your friends.. appropriately, that is... maybe that'll help.

Really, Nasty is from around here? weird. All I got is the "Pop", (c'mon guys. it's pop.) and uhm... really long O's in words like "booooat" and "minnesoooota"

;) The miniapple is a local name for minneapolis.

Is anyone completely done with their essays. I am having a ridiculously hard time trying to get them done. And by the way I'm new here, and am applying SCEA with all you wonderful people. :)

Also, what font are you guys doing your essay in? I've heard people trying to do 10 Arial and squeeze it on a page.

Just follow the character limit lol. Is there a word limit too or no?

And on the homework side of things, I usually rush my hw into like an hour and spend the rest of the day bumming around at home and working on my essays a bit =)

I told myself I'm writing my intellectual idea essay today and I'm not looking forward to it.

yeah that's what i do, julyinoh. except those flippin' tests and stuff. gosh.

I told myself I'm writing my long essay today. I have about 2 sentences.
