SCEA - Class of 2011

SCEA = 19%
RD = 11%

Here's something from the FAQs on Stanford's admission website (<a href="http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_8_faqs.html#scea%5B/url%5D">http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_8_faqs.html#scea</a>)</p>

Is there an advantage to applying early?
Although our admit rate for Single-Choice Early Action is slightly higher than our overall admit rate (20% vs. 12% in 2005), that does not represent a significant advantage over Regular Review. Our early pool of applicants is a very strong group and the admit rate is a reflection of that strength, not of any preference on our part to admit students earlier. We remain committed to reserving the majority of our offers of admission for the Regular Review cycle.

That being said, I'm in!

I'm considering applying SCEA. Stanford is, as of right now, my definite first choice. I just don't know whether I would stand a better chance during SCEA or RD. I'm pretty sure my stats will not get better between the two application times.

yea, i'm deleting myself from this list
i love cornell :)

you all are fabulous!

Even though the acceptance rate for SCEA is higher than regular decision, aren't the applicants generally more qualified?

Hey guys...Instead of bickering over the virtues of EA vs. RD why not just believe Stanford when it says that there is no advantage in either?

i personally think there is an advantage. at my high school, 2 ppl got in early, 1 RD. at the best public high school in the county, about 5-7 get in early, ZERO RD. they haven't had anyone get accepted into stanford RD for the last 15 years.

Actually, at my school, x3rose, it was the opposite. I believe 1 person got in SCEA and 3 people RD. Of course, it's only one example. :]

Hi, I've heard on last year's SCEA forums that if you're a "sterotypical asian male" your chances are significantly lowered (math/sci/tech, etc). However, what about a "non-sterotypical asian male" (history, humanities, etc), would they be seen in better light/considered kind of a minority or just as bad as the scigeek asian male?

lol, what about a "stereotypical asian female"?

i know a stereotypical asian male who got in but he's a TINY bit mexican i think. how unfair! he doesn't even LOOK any part mexican...

So who's scared out of their minds for December 15? lol.

uh nobody's even applied yet

Since when did you have to have done something to be worried about the outcome?

hmm, i'm not too worried... if i don't get into stanford, hopefully i'll get into princeton... if not princeton or any other ivy leagues, ucberkeley is perfectly fine. :)

i've learned not to get too attached to one school. i'm at harvard right now and i'm starting to like it too much.
