How do the admissions stats differ?

This year SCEA admit rate was a little over 12% and RD was 7.6%.

I thought that the overall was 7.6%?

^ yes you are right.
Correction: SCEA about 12%; overall 7.6%
You will need to do the math to get the RD rate.

lgreen,

The stats are misleading. Though the admit rate for SCEA is higher than for RD, keep in mind that the majority of applicants applying to Stanford early is much more qualified and ready than for RD. The pool is simply much more competitive, so it may be to your advantage to apply RD.

And dpattzlover, redo the math. The number of applicants for EA and RD is not the same, so it would be a weighted average. About 5,600 people applied SCEA, and 25,000 for RD. The ratio is 1:5, so I’m estimating a 6.4% admit rate for RD, about the same for Brown RD.

^^What were HYP’s RD rates?

Not sure … personally didn’t apply to them, but I’m guessing they won’t be far off from Stanford’s, if not worse.

hey, does anyone think that if there was no SCEA that those same SCEA admits would be accepted via RD?

^I bet there would be at least a few acceptees (SCEA) who wouldn’t get in RD and vice-versa. But I think at least a majority of decisions would remain the same, although I don’t have any evidence to support that.

Question: why did Princeton’s admit rate actually go up this year? It went up to 9.79%…isn’t that strange when HYS went down considerably?

And this year is apparently the “most competitive” admissions year…
