Alright so i know that SCEA is likely to be a total mess as it is this year, seeing as Harvard and Princeton have canceled their respective early programs entirely, however I was wondering what people have to say about applying SCEA vs. Regular Decision. The way I see it is that the best are probably going to apply early, so then an average candidate in early could wait and apply regular potentially as an above average candidate in that pool of applicants, also, applying regular, one would not have to compete with the students who applied early to Yale just because Harvard and Princeton stopped their early programs. I suppose one possible downside is that applying regular decision would not really convey the fact that Yale is my number one school; but once again with SCEA a real tossup this year how much is that going to matter? I dunno really, just wanted to get a discussion started, and see what other people had to say about applying early vs regular this year

Regardless of the potential mess, you should apply Yale SCEA if you feel your transcript/scores etc. are very strong without your Sr. year grades and can assemble a top notch app package this summer and fall. Don't worry about anyone else and gaming what everyone feels will be new territory.

Gut response is if Y is #1 for you, then go for EA if you feel your materials are ready. Good luck to you.
