Was wondering if any SCEA applicants have received an admissions decision as of yet? I'm beginning to wonder if my DD changing her app from EA to SCEA was a mistake and/or if it will hurt her chances of getting any merit money.

It won’t affect her chances at merit money at all. Why would it? I assume your thinking is that the more people say, explicitly or implicitly, that Tulane is their #1 choice, the less admissions feels the need to attract them with merit money. But SCEA is not binding, and Tulane admissions is plenty experienced enough to know that for a lot of families, no matter how much one school is liked more than another, money rules. Not to mention that after years of observing virtually every situation one can imagine regarding students and their stats, their level of interest, the amount they communicate (or don’t) with their admissions counselor, etc. I can say that Tulane is very fair and consistent in awarding merit money based largely on the academic achievements of the student up to that point.

Okay good. Thank you, fallenchemist. Why do you think they haven’t accepted any of their most eager SCEA applicants as of yet? That seems a little strange. Is this what you’ve typically seen over the past few years since they’ve added this application option?

Actually it is hard to tell if they have or not. SCEA is a lot less common than EA at Tulane, so it could just be “luck of the draw” if they are on CC in any great numbers or not. That is the one thing that is easy to forget about CC is that it is definitely not a typical cross section of applicants. It is heavily skewed towards the higher end.

My son applied SCEA last year and was accepted mid-October. So I don’t think it hurts chances.
