Schedule after September 6...

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what the schedule is for orientation / shopping week after Move-In Day on the 6th? What day to classes officially start?

Here you go:
Harvard University FAS Registrar's Office

gadad, Thank you very much for the website. VERY useful information on it. Much appreciated!

Thanks gadad! The website is super helpful!

I was also wondering, if anyone knows, what kind of activities and stuff they do during orientation?? Any responses are greatly appreciated!

The first weekend of orientation they have a lot of activities for parents to attend if they wish. They have speeches by a lot of the college officials, welcoming new students. They also have the class picture.

During the week, the concentrations all have open houses. They also have panels for all kinds of things, from getting into med school to advising, etc. You'll have meetings with your proctors and your other advisors. Sometime during the week, there is an Activities Fair up in the Quad where a lot of the student organizations have booths and information on how to join. They also have a lot of social events planned, like the First Chance Dance, random arts and crafts things, salsa dancing, dorm socials, etc. At the end of Freshmen Week, the upperclassmen move in and they have a big BBQ with music and a lot to do.

During Freshmen Week, there are activities scheduled almost 24/7. Only a few of those are actually required, however, so you don't have to do more than you want to.

Hope that helps!

The Freshman Dean's Office publishes a Calendar of Opening Days midsummer. Ours (the class of 2012) isn't yet published. Here's the link for the Calendar that the class of 2011 got for the first monthish last fall:

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks MissManda and okaygogodoll! Both your posts were great! The opening days sound like fun...

Another question: do the majority of students participate in the events for the entire week? Or does everyone start to scatter after a couple of days of orientation?
