Schedule Conflicts...

I chose which classes I wanted for Senior Year…except I had a schedule conflict for first period. I’m trying to decide between AP Spanish Language & Culture and AP Biology. While I want to focus on sciences (as I enjoy them the most), I really wanted the four years to be, at least on paper, bi-literate. Is that silly? I don’t know.
Anyways, I wanted a ranking between the classes, especially for Senior year.
Thanks

What do you want to major in? You sound interested in sciences so if your major corresponds to that take AP Bio. Is there a Spanish Honors course you could take instead of AP? Most colleges only want 3 years of world language so although taking Spanish would look good I do not think it is a make it or break it factor.

I was thinking of majoring in Environmental Policy.
No, there was only Spanish IV, but it was hosted the same period. My current Spanish teacher said I could take up independent study for the course and take the test at the end of the year, but I’m not sure if I want to go that route.

Based on your major, I would strongly recommend AP Bio (you will probably get a good use out of the credit in college). If you are still really interested in Spanish could you take it a local college? A couple of my friends did that for French as they did not have enough room in their schedule and said they learned a lot. Otherwise you could always independent study or not take the course. It all depends if you have the drive and enough interest to work outside of school.

There is a community college a few towns south of where I am. My counselor suggested that, too, but I’m unsure if it’s too late to apply and whether or not I have transportation for it.
I would really like to take Spanish, but I’ve decided --at this point-- of taking AP Bio.

I’m just wondering how these classes stack up against each other. I had a similar conflict last year that landed me in AP Statistics instead of art, but now with this conflict I’ll be taking two art classes. The high school scheduling system is just chaotic as heck. AP Bio was almost cut to begin with because we had less than 30 students, yet they kept an Remediation Economics class for 6 students…

By independent study, do you mean you’d a) just be studying alone b)be studying one-on-one with a teacher or c)studying with books or online through your school district? Cause if it’s b you’ll almost certainly learn more than you would in AP Spanish, and that could look great on your transcript, a or c are less preferable but if c would appear on your transcript that would also be a good route to go.
