Hey! I’m currently a sophomore right now, and the classes I take are:
- Algebra 2 Honors
- APUSH
- AP Chemistry
- Art (Regular class)
- Gym/Health (Regular class)
- Biology Honors
- World Lit Honors
- Spanish II Honors.
For next year, my guidance will soon be scheduling us, and I’m a bit confused as to what to take next year. The required classes I have to take are:
- Pre-calc
- World History Honors or AP World (I’m leaning towards World History since I’m not really a history fan, but most of my friends might take AP World, so I’m not sure.)
- Physics Honors or AP Physics 1 Algebra-Based (Not sure which to take, but I know Physics Honors would be a breeze for me since I know a lot of it).
- Gym/Health
- Spanish III Honors
- AP Lang or Lit 3 Honors (I’m choosing AP Lang)
That leaves me with 2 electives. The thing is though, I really want to take some classes I’m having a hard time choosing from. The options I can take are:
- AP Gov. (Not really interested in it though)
- AP Comp. Science (Interested)
- AP Stats (Interested)
- AP Biology (Super interested!!! I love bio)
- AP Microeconomic/Macro (Not sure if I really want to do it- would prefer for senior year)
Basically, I’m having a hard time choosing whether or not I should take AP Physics or Honors Physics and whether I should take AP World or World Honors along with the decision of having to choose electives (One of which I’m def. doing AP Bio). Any advice would be appreciated on what to do for my junior schedule! Thank you, and sorry this is long lolll!
AP Physics 1 is intro physics. If you know honors then that means you know AP Physics 1. Is precalc honors an option? Hard to make an elective suggestion without knowing your interests/intended major. Be wary that the drop from APUSH to honors world might not be seen that well in college admissions, especially since AP World is considered easier than APUSH.
^Likewise, the drop from AP Chemistry to honors physics might be seen as a drop in rigor as well. Something to consider if you are looking at highly selective colleges.
@XtremeBlaze777 , @Groundwork2022 , thank you for your feedback! I’m not sure about AP Physics because the upperclassmen at my school say how taking AP Bio and AP Physics at the same time is really challenging. That’s the reason I was hesitant of choosing it, but I’ll consider it more now. For AP World, I wasn’t aware that it’s easier than APUSH. I’m doing well in APUSH right now, but I wasn’t sure for AP World since I though it would be adding more onto my plate.
So, as of now, I’m planning to take Gym/Health, Spanish 3 Honors, Pre-calc (I think it’s Honors), AP Bio, AP Comp Sci, AP Lang, maybe AP World, and I’m not sure of AP Physics. The thing is, I don’t want to overburden myself for next year either because my counselors stress that junior year grades are the most important.
Bump! So, I recently got scheduled from my guidance counselor, and they recommended I shouldn’t take AP Physics with AP Bio, but they said the option is up to me if I should take AP Physics or Honors Physics. Right now, my schedule is:
- Gym/Health (alternating after 2 marking periods)
- Spanish 3 Honors
- Pre-calc (Not honors bc the school doesn't have an honors for it)
- AP Lang
- AP World History
- AP Biology
- Physics Honors
- AP Statistics (I could replace this with AP Comp Science since I qualify for it??)
Should I take AP Physics, bc I’m unsure after my counselor said it would be hard to do both at once, but they’re leaving it up to me.
are you unable to take physics senior year? I might be misinterpreting this but you said next school year you will be a junior.
@breadbreadbread , I’m a sophomore right now, and this is my schedule for junior year (sorry if I made that confusing!) I have to take physics as a class for my junior year (honors or AP), but I asked my counselor, and she said as long as I do fine in physics junior year, I can take either AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C as a senior.
Physics honors + AP Bio is a very good pair.
For your last class, take what you like best. It could be art, music, an elective… It doesn’t have to be AP. 3-4, APs junior year is plenty.
Then I would go for honors this year and then AP as a senior
@MYOS1634 , @breadbreadbread , thank you for replying back! I’ll just stick with AP Bio and physics honors for my junior year schedule! The most classes I can fit in my schedule are 8, and now I’m just choosing between AP Stats and AP Comp Sci for my elective space. Thank you again!
Definitely Physics C. Physics 1 is an introductory course and will look bad on your transcript if you take it after already taking a physics course.
Out of curiosity, does your school have documentation/course overviews explaining the difference between the two Physics courses? AP Physics 1 is typically an initial honors Physics course. I find it odd to have both Honors and AP 1. Is there also a non-honors Physics?
I don’t know about OP but our school actually offers all three: reg, honors, and AP. You can take any of the three to satisfy prereqs for Physics C, though the self-selective nature of these classes pretty much guarantees only honors/AP will take C. Despite omitting rotational motion, the honors class covers more concepts but in far less depth.
