Hi I made a post ago, but we have to choose our classes by next week and I’m pretty worried. Can anybody tell me the workload for some of these AP and Honors classes? I’ll be taking five weighted classes and I’m planning on taking:
AP Chem (hardest class)
AP Lit
APUSH (a lot of work??)
Honors Spanish IV
Art 2 (should be a relaxing class)
Honors Pre Calc with Trig (everybody in my grade complains about this!)
If I were to change a class to an unweighted class, it would be APUSH. I do like history, but I also feel like I need the three APs for colleges because since I did not advance anything over the summers, I was only able to take one AP and one honors this year, Honors Chem (had around a 95% last semester) and AP Euro (95% first semester and 98% so far this semester). How are Honors Pre Calc with Trig, AP Lit, APUSH, and AP Chem if you’ve taken the classes?
(Also, advice on my schedule will be great as well thanks)
Hi joyce1517,
From my experience, Precalculus Honors with Trig was a pretty class. It really comes down to how well you understand the concepts and how good you are at applying them. Oh and memorize the unit circle and the trig identities. You will need it for calculus and it will come to bite you in the butt if you forget it. For me, I thought World History AP was harder than APUSH. Although APUSH is a lot of work, the ap exam is much easier. From my friends, I heard that Chemistry AP is similar to Chemistry Honors in difficulty level. I have no idea about Spanish though. From your schedule, I’m guessing you will have approx 3-4 hours of work each day. Go with your schedule because I feel like you are able to manage it. Also, you will probably need this type of schedule if you want to compete with other students for a spot in John Hopkins. Good luck and may your spear stay sharp!
Here’s my take:
In assuming your pre calc class is just any other honors pre calc class with a different title (I took it last year).
My AP chem teacher always said that you should at least be in pre calc to take the class so you should be fine there.
This class is tough though, especially if you’re used to straight memorization, because of you just memorize everything you would probably fail every test.
APUSH, people say, is easier than AP euro so if you’re comfortable with the workload in AP euro then take APUSH.
AP Lit is a senior class in my school which I’m taking next year. My teacher say it’s like a continuation of Honors English 11, but a little more difficult. It shouldn’t be too bad, but participation is key to getting a good grade.
I’m taking French, so I have no idea about Spanish. Some of my friends say it’s super easy, same day it’s hard.
@Keggin Thank you as well! I hope I get good teachers for the classes as well because some people say APUSH is easier than AP Euro, but apparently if I get one of the new teachers at my school who teaches APUSH then it’s much harder because she’s not a good teacher basically. Also, thanks for the advice on the other subjects as well.
APUSH is usually considered a high workload AP. At our school, Art 2 is a high workload class. My kid put more time into that than she has into AP classes.
@lostaccount In senior year, I’ll do AP Calculus, likely AB, and AP Biology for my math and science. @mathyone Okay thanks! Maybe I’ll take the new culinary arts class at my school and do Art 2 senior year then
