I'm going to orientation next Tuesday, and I still have no clue what my schedule should be.
I'm currently in McCombs and looking to transfer into BHP.

I already have credit for BIO 311 C, 311D; ECO 304L; ECO 304k; RHE 306; GOV 310L(If I do well on the placement test); HIS 315K, 315L; M 408C ; STA 309.
Left out some useless credits like comp sci and human geo.

My schedule so far is
Fall: Psy 301
Calc 408k
UGS?

Spring: BA 101S
Calc 408L
MIS 301

I have credit for statistics, but I don't remember anything. I have to take Statistics 371G in the future. Should I retake it, is it necessary to know the stuff?

I can only take 1 other business course to meet BHP transfer reqs. So if I don't retake statistics, should I take an accounting class?

Should I just finish off my GenEd requirements?
Communication, Classical Civilization, Govt?

BHP wants me to have a challenging schedule. They recommend taking Gov, Eco, and His to show a challenging course load, but I already have credit for most of them.
Any recommendations on what to do?

You’ll also need the required Fine arts credit. Probably take some sort of Art History class. Also, you’ll need GOV 312L (TX Gov). Other than that, I don’t know what classes you should take. Your advisor will try to help you…

Hi,

I am going to be a freshman in the fall and am looking to organize a general schedule before I go to orientation. Anyone know why some classes are “closed?” What is the difference between a closed class and a Wait-listed one? It seems that all of the UGS classes are closed, however I have to sign up for one of them right?

Thanks!

Closed means they are full, or more seats will be opened up every friday of orientation. Take French for example, up until Friday of my orientation, every class was closed. On that Friday, I looked and some were open

a waitlisted class is full and you have to add yourself to the list and you’ll be notified if you were given a seat. there’s an option to put yourself on class b’s waitlist and then drop class a in the event of you getting in to class b. (:

helrpz please
orientation is soon

You sound exactly like me! I came in with a crazy lot of AP credit hours (46) so here’s what I did:

Fall:
CMS 306M
UGS 303
ECO 304K (You could take L, I don’t think you said you had credit for that.)
C C 307D (Fine arts credit, DON’T TAKE THIS ONE. My only A- so far, it was horrible.)
SOC 302 (For additional social science credit, I had credit from AP Psych too)

My fall semester was a joke, it was SO EASY. The only class that was kinda difficult was my fine arts credit class, and you could just take an easier one, since my choice was really bad.

You could just take 12 hours in the fall and be fine. Really. Look at how many semesters you have until you graduate, and you’ll see you’ll overshoot the 120 hours even with taking 12 every semester.

Spring:
ACC 311 (You wouldn’t take because of BHP)
MIS 301
B A 324 (You wouldn’t take because of BHP)
B A 101S
GOV 312

I was in the same boat as you, and I decided not to pursue BHP because then I wouldn’t have been able to take ACC 311/BA 324 and that whole semester would be a bunch of worthless filler classes. I’m not sure what else you could take.

Dang Why two kay, thats a lot of credits. Good thing I don’t have that many credits
And I do indeed have credit for ECO 304K.

What I’m thinking for fall:
M 408K
PSY 301
UGS 303
CMS 306M
Fine Arts or Social Science??

Spring:
M 408L
BA 101S
MIS 301
GOV 312
E 316K

I would only be missing a fine arts/social science credit from my basic core.
How hard does that schedule look??

Maybe I’ll try and get a job in the fall if things are looking easy.

That looks like a very very solid schedule, and you won’t have too hard a time. I also didn’t realize you didn’t have credit for E 316K already, so yeah it’s a good idea to take that.

PSY 301 would count as your Psych/Soc/Anthrop requirement. There is also a fine arts requirement. And then there is a totally separate requirement that must be another Psy/Soc/Anthrop class OR another fine arts class. I had credit for Psy 301 from the AP Test, and then I took SOC 302.

I would say, either leave your fall alone and just take the 4 classes (13 credit hours is not too low for somebody in your position, you have lots of credit already!) or add your fine art if it really interests you.

To get that “additional fine art or psy/soc/anthrop” credit, I would recommend SOC 302 with Raley as the teacher. She only teaches every other fall semester, so I don’t think she would be teaching this fall or spring. But she is by far the easiest teacher for that subject ever. Just three tests, no final, and a few homeworks that you get lots of time to do, that are really just asking opinions or definition repeats. The textbook might as well be a 5th grade textbook, and the class was only 2 hours a week (1 hour on T, 1 hour TH, and an optional 1 hour TA session on either Th or F.) That optional TA session was never an hour long, and was just a chance for extra credit. I walked out of the class with an uncurved 95 average, and there was no +/- grading. Plus she was an interesting teacher who showed lots of movies in class.

So I’ll just leave SOC 302 for next fall.

I think I read a post by you somewhere that said the difference between UGS 302 and 303 is that 302 has more writing?

Also, do you have any recommendations on who to take CMS 306M with?

CMS 306M is kinda random. When I registered none of the sections even had a teacher listed. I had Blackburn, but they rotate through instructors like crazy. It’s a very basic course, and my teacher wasn’t really a professor, just an instructor from the school of communication. They use recent graduates or something, I’ve never seen mine teach another class since.

And yes, UGS 303 is typically larger classes with more lecture/discussion type actionm and UGS 302 are small classes of like 15 people or so that have more writing. I’d recommend taking a UGS 303, most people do.

I’m taking CMS 306M next fall too.
How hard is that class?
I’m not that great of a speaker so I’m afraid I’ll do poorly in that class.

Any recommendations on an easy and interesting fine arts class?
How are Art History and TD?
