I'm taking History of News in Modern America, too.

what do I do if the language course I want to take fills up before I get a chance to register for classes? I want to take Chinese but 2 of the classes are already closed and I'm not going to orientation until next week.

hey oxygen, did you get into northwestern? seems like you're comin to usc this fall. glad to hear and good luck..

pRosmat3c - i haven't even heard from northwestern yet. in lieu of that, i went ahead and sent in my usc deposit and enrolled. i'm happy with my decision, seeing as staying in california was a priority and usc is a great school.

SPAN 265. Spanish for Communication: Society and the Media
GEOL 107. Oceanography
COMM 200. Communication as a Social Science
ARLT 100. Memory,History and Identity in Postmodern Literature and Film

MATH 125: Calculus I
CNTV 190: Introduction to Cinema
PSYH 155xg: Pyschological Perspectives on Social Issues
CTWR 140: Writing and Critical Reasoning

oxygen, glad to hear that.. i had the same priority, and living in california since i was 5 i've always dreamed of going to USC. staying close to home and being just far enough to be independent is not bad at all, plus it made it a lot easier now that northwestern rejected me anyways. i would've loved chicago too, we lived there before i moved to calif, and have a lot of family there, but maybe for law school.. good luck this year and let me know about northwestern's reply. they told me over 700 applied for 100 transfer spots

ENGR 101: Introduction to Engineering
ENGR 102a: Engineering Freshman Academy
MATH 125: Calculus I
WRIT 140: Writing and Critical Reasoning
IR 100xg: The United States and World Affairs
(Actually, I wanted to take Barnes's Law and Public Policy class, but it conflicted with my Intro to Engr class, which I have to take. So I went with Bender's class, my 2nd choice).

hyerim- I took Memory, History, and Identity in Postmodern Literature and Film two semesters ago. Who's your prof? I had Halberstam, and enjoyed the class a lot. There's a good amount of reading (but then again that's what you're supposed to do since it's the Arts and Letters class), but the books that my prof chose were interesting, so I was entertained. The only thing I was bummed about was that there were all these movies assigned and I thought we were going to watch them in class, but we had to watch them on our own time. :)

I have halberstam also :) I'm really looking forward to the class, if you have any advice or anything to be prepared for, that would be great!

I would definitely recommend talking in class (it's a small class). I have a thing where I really just can't speak in class unless it's utterly necessary, and I think in that class I should have talked more (I think she grades on it and finds it important). I would also say keep up with watching the videos out of class (I didn't, and it probably would have helped more :) ), and most definitely keep up with the reading, because it goes pretty quickly.

I don't know if you guys will read the same books, but if you have to buy this book by a guy named Norman Klein, the History of Forgetting, you can totally take mine. I probably opened it once the whole semester, and then I tried to sell it back at the end of the semester, and they didn't take it back. I don't know what to do with it, and I certainly don't want it, so if you need that book for class, you can have mine and save some money. :) If you want to know what other books you read in the class (if they're the same), I can tell you that.

Awesome :D I'll PM you.

you kids taking history of news in modern america are way lucky it's not the same professor it used to be. It used to be an absolute MORON. The university finally got rid of him after students created a group on the facebook mocking the idiot:

<a href="http://usc.thefacebook.com/group_profile.php?gid=1580%5B/url%5D">http://usc.thefacebook.com/group_profile.php?gid=1580</a></p>

He had written this book which he made everyone buy, but it had over 500 spelling and gramatical errors in it. He also taught the class at about a 2nd grade level. It was pathetic.

My orientation is next week and I was wondering if I should do any preparation or anything. Should I plan out a schedule and try to figure out what classes I want and all that, or do they give us time during orientation to figure all this out?

You should definitely plan out a few schedules that you might want. I say few, because there's a good chance you'll go in and find that the classes you want to take are filled, so just make sure you have back-ups. You'll have time to do all this at orientation if you want, but it'll be less stressful and easier just to do it now.

This is true, but the problem is that you may not have all the information you need yet. I know I was lost when I went to orientation, then they basically told me what classes I needed to do. I don't know what your major is- that is what it mainly depends on.

Nikara-- I'm majoring in communications. So did you plan anything out before you went to orientation? I just don't want to worry over nothing.

I'm taking:
ENST-150xg: Environmental Issues in Society <== is this a good class? I chose randomly.
WRIT-140
BISC-120Lg
CHEM-105ALg
I wanted to take yoga, but the times conflicted with my schedule. >_<

I registered during orientation, but I'm starting to hate how I spaced out all my classes to fill out the day. Is it okay if I go online to change them?

You can definitely go online and change your schedule. I've done it a million times each semester. And sometimes you may find that a class that you really wanted to take that was filled up before, has open spaces if you check later.
