I got accepted into IU and am expecting to get into Kelley as well. I was wondering what scholarships and programs I’d qualify for. Also does anyone know what the cut off is to get invited to ACE or any stats on getting invited?
ACT: 32 single sitting, 33 superscore
SAT: 1490 single. 690R 800M with 7,7,7 on writing
Asian male (would I qualify for Hudson and Holland?)
lots of EC, leadership, and volunteering.
What’s your GPA? I got into ACE with a 4.4 WGPA and 34 ACT. I know for sure that some people had better stats than me and some had worse, but I never got a good sense of where I stood stats-wise. They don’t publish the cutoffs for ACE - it probably depends some on the applicant pool each year.
I’m guessing you’ll get an ACE invite. My roommate got invited with almost identical stats as me, but he is a minority, and I think that plays into it to some degree. I don’t exactly know other people’s stats, but I know for a fact that people got in with worse stats than me. I think my essay was fairly well-written, but it’s not like I had some amazing hook or anything. ECs were decent but nothing too special - 3-year varsity athlete, NHS, a few other clubs
@csekar15 He will definitely get the Dean’s scholarship. The scholarship should be $11k per year, and he might have a chance to get another smaller scholarship through the SSA.
He might have a chance to get into ACE, but I don’t think he is a lock. Also, you can’t technically get into business honors as a freshman. ACE automatically feeds into business honors after the first year as long as you get a 3.5 GPA freshman year. You can also get into business honors after freshman year without ACE, but it’s very competitive even if you do well.
He will be a direct admit to the Hutton Honors College, which is IU’s general honors college and is separate from the business school.
@iubaccounting Thank you very much for the detailed response. That is very encouraging to hear. He did get the invite to apply to the Hutton Honors College through SSA.
@iubaccounting Just curious… If he gets into Hutton Honors college, how is that different from getting into Kelley and it’s honors program starting in the sophomore year? Can one get into HHC and then take classes in Kelley or are they all kind of one cohesive program?
They are 2 separate programs, but you can take honors classes freshman and sophomore year if you are either in Hutton or business honors. For the first 2 years, it really doesn’t matter much.
You then take I-Core first semester of junior year. If you are in business honors, you take the honors version of I-Core which is easier to get good grades in. If you are not in business honors, you take regular I-Core. Hutton does not have any impact on I-Core. There really aren’t any honors versions of business classes after I-Core, so Hutton essentially becomes worthless at that point. Honors I-Core is the primary advantage of the business honors program.
My son found out on the IU site on Nov. 30 that he was accepted. We received a letter in the mail today, Dec. 4, that he was awarded the Dean’s scholarship. He has not received the crimson acceptance packet in the mail yet.
@Scubaski1 we received the crimson envelope with the Dean’s scholarship letter and a brochure enclosed, your scholarship letter came separately from the crimson envelope?
That’s the score I got into ACE with. Regardless, with your stats, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble getting into Kelley Honors without ACE. I wouldn’t be too concerned about it, it’s a neat opportunity to have a senior mentor but I’m sure you could find one organically at IU. Overall, try to let go of stress about sent apps as that won’t change the result. Just know that you will enjoy the school you end up at and the skills you had in high school aren’t going anywhere. Having been in similar shoes a year ago, I just want HS Seniors to know that things will take care of themselves after they send that app away. God bless!
