My D17 is a rising senior that won a state level corporate scholarship. She also won three scholarships from individual colleges that are dependent on her applying and getting accepted to those colleges.
When applying for additional scholarships, is it a positive or negative to include that you were awarded these two different types of scholarships? My gut says both would be looked upon favorably, but I’d like to get confirmation from some of the experienced posters on here.
@CourtneyThurston I didn’t get any responses to my question, so I was wondering if you could weigh in since you won multiple different scholarships. Did you list the scholarships you had previously won when you applied for scholarships?
Hopefully Courtney will weigh in.
My personal opinion is that mentioning them at this point could be a negative as they may want to award to someone who they think is in more need of the funds.
I never listed my other scholarships unless it was absolutely required, @tpike12
A lot of organizations will prioritize other students if it becomes clear you already have some funding, even if that funding isn’t significant. The fact that you have some at all means you’re less needy than many other students. So I left them off unless forced to disclose.
Thanks @CourtneyThurston - glad I asked!
