will having a sibling at USC help one’s chances of admission and by how much?

Hi everyone,

I was browsing College Confidential for the first time in a while when I ran across this thread I started last year. It’s crazy to think how much has happened since submitting my first college applications last fall.

I’ll keep this brief, but I wanted to provide some closure to this thread that I think might help future applicants. You can look on the first page of this thread to see that my stats aren’t stellar by any means; I applied to USC with a 3.79 UW GPA and a 1400 / 2090 on the SAT. I was ultimately offered a Trustee (full tuition) Scholarship, and am now proud to call myself a USC Trojan!

If you’re in the same place I was at this time last year, here’s a thought that may sound familiar: “I want to attend USC more than anything, but I don’t know how I’ll be able to afford it.” My advice to someone in that position? Go for it; apply anyways! It became evident to me over the course of the scholarship selection and interview process that the school takes a very holistic approach to awarding scholarships. Sure, they want bright students. But they also want students that are passionate about joining the USC Trojan community; trust me, that kind of passion has the ability to speak much louder here than mere SAT or ACT scores.

Miracles happen during the USC admission process; I know because one happened to me, to people in my dorm, and other people scattered all throughout campus. USC is truly an incredible school. If you want to come here, then go for it. You never know what might happen!

I’d be happy to answer anyone’s questions about USC that I can. Best of luck as the December 1 deadline approaches.

Good for you, and glad I was wrong. Shows you why you should not listen too much to others when you have a passion for something. Your strong interest in USC must have come through in your application in a unique way. Congrats!

:) !!!

CONGRATULATIONS!

What a wonderful update.

Awesome man! USC is one of my top choices, and I hope I’ll be able to get at least a half tuition scholarship.

I feel like my biggest mistake is not preparing well enough for the PSAT (I’m normally a crazy test taker), so I only ended up getting NMC and not NMF. If I would have done my research last year, I would have prepared for it as hard as I did for my ACT, which I feel like I did to the best of my ability.

From looking at the decisions thread linked here, I’m feeling better now though that I will be able to get an interview. I hope that my 35 ACT and a 3.9 UW GPA should help me get at least into the doors, so that I can show the admissions office what passion and drive I truly have as well as my dream of going to USC. It’s going to be a long two months for me while I wait to hear back from Troy.
