Scholarship Essays? How to answer?

Hi,

I was wondering if Scholarship essay prompts should be answered in anecdotal form or straight-out explanation. For example my D is a semifinalist for CocaCola and one of the essays is "Choose the most meaningful service activity and describe how you and your community have benefited" How would this best be answered?

I would lean toward the explanation because that is easier for me, but I don’t think it matters. I think it is easier to give more details in an explanation.

I think it should be both. An overview of the activity peppered with a few anecdotes. I remember hearing an adcom speak about reading essays and she said that it was much more enjoyable and informative to read anecdotes than rambling prose.

I’d include at least one anecdote.

I can’t imagine how you’d answer this without anecdotes or examples. These are just like college essays, you want the committee to feel like they know and like you.

I agree with the other posters. However, I thought the OP was asking about doing one extended anecdote.
